Just finished Cranberry Cove by @haileypiperfights.bsky.social . Loved it. Sex Magic, a haunted hotel, a trans woman mafia muscle partnered with a well meaning albeit misogynistic partner. I love how it all comes together and is decidedly unique and creepy, with an ending that left me wanting more.

I feel like they basically did the IT version of turning it on and off again. Least amount of effort and no attempt to look into the underlying issue.

This was after the fact that they lost my car for a day after I had it towed there. They insisted they didn’t have it but it was in their lot the entire time. Now, the tow truck driver left the keys in the car so all they checked was the keys dropped in the night box and never checked the lot.

They basically said the battery was defective. I then discover Mazda issued a TSB for this exact issue, the switch malfunctioning causing the gait to open and close on its own, draining the battery. Am I being unreasonable that I was upset they didn’t catch this and made me buy a whole new battery?

Mechanic Types. I had taken my Mazda CX-9 to the dealership due to the fact that I had a malfunctioning tailgate switch and the battery, which I had changed two month ago, was completely drained.

Is it just me projecting my awkward relationship with religion onto the situation or is it something I should be legitimately concerned with?

Question for anyone involved in Mental Health Counseling: Is it appropriate for your therapist/counselor to pray with you? This is happening with a family member and it makes me feel uncomfortable, for many reasons.

Well, my birthday is March 19th, so I feel getting myself a birthday present makes a lot of sense.

Did your football plans apologize if anyone was offended then bemoan how nobody can take a joke while doubling down on their homophobic comments?

I have an interview for a new position at work today. It was a position I was recruited for and was told the interview is basically a formality but I’m still nervous I’m going to screw it up somehow.

The responsible thing is to make sure I’m including other people in these projects and train them how to do it and I keep pushing to include others but at the same time, I’m not supposed to talk about the new position until it’s offered so it just seems like I’m trying to get out of work.

Bob Reiss @nottobrite.bsky.social · 13/09/2026
I’m in this weird position at work. I’ve applied for a new position but haven’t yet received the offer but I’ve been assured I will. No one in my department knows this. So I keep getting asked to take on things that will be ongoing, and I have to because it’s my job but it won’t be in a few weeks.

So, right now I am dealing with a parent in the throws of a mental health crisis. I don’t want to go into too many details but it’s been emotionally draining and full of crippling guilt. Yet, now it seems like every book I’m reading has some type of “dealing with an aging parent” subplot.

Listen to Crossroads by @laurelhightower.bsky.social yesterday and come on guys! Please stop wreaking me with your words. I’m emotionally fragile right now. This was tragically beautiful and a punch in the gut. I think today I need to just listen to uplifting pop anthems to recover.

So I finished The Sundowner’s Dance. Loved it. Maybe not the best choice of books when you’ve been dealing with an elder parent in a mental health crisis but man, such a great story.

I’m not a huge Harvey fan. I voted for Lucia Simonelli in the primaries but Fitzpatrick’s “attack” against Harvie is ridiculous. He never called Bucks County cops Nazi’s be just pointed out the parallels between this facist regime and what happened in Germany.

I just have the epilogue left in The Sundowner’s Dance by @toddkeisling.com and while I totally believe in reading the entire book if I don’t read it then I can just image that Jerry and Kat just live happily ever after, get a puppy and maybe move to Bangor, Maine to become haunted tour guides.

I absolutely love this picture of my nephew Henry “Hank” Reiss on The Blake Show on The Coast 93.1 in Maine. Henry has been battling cancer since he was four he takes time away from his treatment and getting ready to go back to school to talk about the upcoming Maine Children’s Cancer Walk Program.

I am less than half way through The Sundowner’s Dance by @toddkeisling.com but I’m going to be at Dark Ink tomorrow and I’m thinking I should just have him sign the book at whatever point I stop reading it tonight. Is that weird? I know they usually sign one of the first few pages.

Finished A River Red With Blood by John Connolly. Another excellent Charlie Parker novel. I feel he’s really amping up the reveals on Charlie and his crew and I’m fascinated with where it’s going. I love Jeff Harding’s narration.

Finished 3 of the 5 stories in The Fall (Tales from the Gulp) by @alanbaxter.bsky.social. Liking this one more than the first book, I think. The second story, Cathedral Stack may be my favorite story of the series so far. Need to start looking into some of his other books.

Stephen King is my favorite author. I would never argue that he’s the best author ever but none of that matters. What matters is what he said. Your issues with what he said and his abilities as a writer are two totally different things.

I’ve seen this with Neil Gaimen, Cormic McCarthy, JK Rowling, and Orson Scott Card among others. It always feels like a performative humble brag, “I knew they sucked and you guys are dumb for liking them!”

Bob Reiss @nottobrite.bsky.social · 07/07/2026
To be outraged by what Stephen King said is one thing, and I totally agree with that. To say there are much better modern writers, I also agree with that. To say he’s inconsequential to the genre is mind blowing.

Every time an author does or says something despicable, people line up to declare “well, they aren’t that good anyway. There are so many better authors!” My question, why does that matter? Even if they were the greatest living author out there, that doesn’t change what they said.

We were looking for something just to put on in the background and found Night Visions, a horror anthology, on Tubi. It’s hosted by Henry Rollins and guest stars like everyone. Weirdly, it’s Independence Day and there’s an episode staring Bill Pullman. Not sure how I’ve never seen this before.

Usually I choose to read longer books in audio but I decided to go the print route with Devil’s Creek by @toddkeisling.com. It took me exactly one month to finish it but it was well worth it. Not only is it my favorite book I finished this year but it would make my top 10 of the past 10 years.
