Boise State now being ranked ahead of Oregon in both the AP and coaches polls is not how I saw this playing out. Meanwhile, a nice "also receiving votes" for the Beavers.

Worth noting that @bridgetownbites.bsky.social , a Portland dining publication, has done a better job of summarizing the Clarklewis situation than any mainstream news publication in this city. This is what you can accomplish when you are willing to consider all sources available to you.

And then we get to the protest, the broken window, the "physical safety" of employees. Again, we hear "however unknowingly" about the reservation, but nothing about what transpired from the moment that group entered the facility to the time their bill was paid and they were ushered out the back door

And if you have someone floating around not only the sidewalk of your bar, but your outdoor dining area in an "American Nationalist" shirt with gothic script and there are protesters outside, the ignorance plea is off the table.

The Clarklewis owners repeatedly state that they did not "knowingly" allow white nationalists into their establishment. They lament the lack of prior knowledge and note all of the ways in which the reservation system fails them in this regard. This covers the point until said persons open the door.

A one-source story (the restaurant manager) that didn’t ask for the pamphlet, did no other research into the Clarklewis event, and let this quote slide…

Let's rectify that. Love Campana. Used to use it as an excuse to go to OG Breakside, but am now thinking of heading up there as a reason to visit LaVerne's. And yeah, there's an adage about when you let those guys into a bar. I'd rather not be in that bar.

Also, it isn't 2007 anymore: It really isn't hard to find an Italian (or Italian-American) place in Portland better than or equal to one that's a little loose with the guest list.

For a Portland railyard and warehouses that were just paved over within the last 25 years or so, The Pearl has a shockingly steep cover charge for political debate. www.portlandmercury.com/news/pearl-d...
Text reads as follows: Classen, the NW Examiner editor, told Green in a September 28 email that the metric the hosts used was based on who had raised the largest amount in donations.

“All four raised more than twice as much as the next highest candidate,” Classen wrote.

Meanwhile, looking at attendance for the W and the overwhelming story (outside of expansion teams) is growth. Those maximum capacity numbers keep getting pointed to as potential, but some of those attendance dips are a warning about fan relations.

Love seeing the @portlandfire.bsky.social not only close out the season with a win, but at No. 4 in attendance as an expansion team. Behind only the Fever, Liberty and Valkyries. The Fire's lowest attendance is higher than the Aces' average, and they have the title and the potential G.O.A.T.

Completely agree that this should result in immediate disqualification. Glad you Xed them out, and why everyone should approach Big Pink's observation deck with caution. Downtown can't be trusted.

From about high school age, I've always had questions about how Italian Americans developed their identity in this country and how both their culture and political worldview evolved. For years, much of it was based around the family's personal story in Newark, but I've wanted to learn more.

A Portland theater that isn't discussed enough. Since the new owners took over in 2021, it's been deep nerd cuts like Rock and Rule, $5 VHS nights, and lineups like this:

And that Odd Moe's was a six-minute walk from Society Pie's Tanasbourne location. Few restaurants are a six minute walk from anywhere in Hillsboro, yet this neighborhood had a direct comparison. The choice was made (though good luck crossing Cornell Road on foot).

The local Defector commentors get it. Seeing the local business interests' reaction to "put a bird on it" Portland—increase travel marketing, approve hotels, don't adjust tax revenue whatsoever—and the creative class here (cash for startups who'll flee the pandemic) predicted this debate.

The "vile underlings" segment of this story—the one aimed at the members of the front office who've seemingly done a 180 from the public-facing personae under the Allen family—presents the discussion in necessarily unsentimental terms. This is where loyalties lie:

The local chamber (including the local newspaper of record) has been using the "shittalk the city" strategy to great effect since the pandemic to demonize the urban core, drive down property values, and facilitate bargain real estate investment. And where have we seen Dundon's ownership plan before?

Jason Notte @notteham.bsky.social · 31/07/2026
And as for that "divisive political environment," we're sorry you promised new ownership a monoculture, but nobody Portland's a town that speaks up. Some people within the Blazers organization seem to appreciate that.

"It makes it harder to sell tickets, secure corporate partnerships and ... recruit players.” Having a whole city call a team full of players who hadn't been convicted of crimes "Jail Blazers" and having the Lake Oz cops raid your hometown hero's house for weed already set that recruiting barrier.
