Trump wanted EU to release diesel stockpiles before the midterms, as price of diesel hit record highs. EU rejected his demand. He threatened to restrict diesel exports to the UK, which is heavily dependent on US for its diesel. US exports btw 1.2 & 1.5M barrels of diesel a day-BBC.
