I remember reading and watching this story about a Sudanese cafe and Syrian restaurant being burnt to ashes by racists in 2024. 2-3 pogroms later (genuinely losing count now) and journalists and politicians from across party lines continue to contribute to this climate. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

I've read several (important) articles about Sudanese who were under consideration for UK scholarships and insist they'd return. I haven't seen these mention what happened to those who returned, like former Chevening scholar Alwaleed Abdeen who was imprisoned & starved to death by the RSF last year.

One of my favourite artworks from Sudan's 2018-19 uprising. The Arabic writing translates to "A woman's place is the resistance" (by A. Satir, 2019).
Artwork on a residential wall in Khartoum of a woman holding up a stick usually used for cooking. The text says A woman's place is the resistance in Arabic
المرا مكانا المقاومة.

Everything about that BAFTA clip is horrible especially for MBJ and Delroy and BAFTA handled it terribly. At the same time, the ignorance that highly educated Americans seem to have about disabilities and the fact that they can actually manifest in deeply horrible ways is stunning.

Rare for me to defend Arab TV but one of the things about being in Cairo is that most Arabic language news channels - eg Aljazeera mubashar, Al Hadath - actually report daily and in-depth on Sudan. And regularly have analysts actually based in Sudan on their news shows.

There have been years of people ignoring what’s happening in Sudan. The only reason that it’s a news story today is because it’s so bad that you can see the literal bloodshed from the NASA satellites! How dare you center yourself in such a way while people are being raped and killed?!

I reactivated twitter for four days before deactivating again. It wasn't even the direct racism & nazi shit but that as blood and corpses flooded El Fasher, Americans/Brits were doing up "no one is getting called up by HR for posting about Sudan though" - that algorithm rewards sociopaths.
