I like how we've had this XKCD cartoon for decades, yet "sending files" is something early adopters are still figuring out how to do. (It's been one of those mornings...)
A stick figure cartoon. The person is talking to someone over the phone running through a half-dozen options for sending a file to someone else, and what makes each of them impractical (or at least inconvenient), ending with the other person just driving over to their house with a USB drive.

I think about this panel a lot, since the kid tends to prefer Rube Goldberg approaches to just about everything. It's either that, or trying to remember the lyrics to that Avril Lavigne song. (For context, and why Daisy is calling him McJean: this is an […] [Original post on notes.kvibber.com]
Disney's Uncle Scrooge with Daisy Duck as a child, sitting in a horse-drawn carriage. Uncle Scrooge holds the reins and is saying: Grumph. Fine! Why make life *easy* when it could be so *dog gone complicated?
Daisy is giving him a side hug, saying exuberantly, Thanks, Unca McJean!

Gonna miss this phone. Still trying to decide if I should get the battery replaced (LineageOS at least still supports the Pixel 5) and repurpose it for...something... or just take it to the fire station to deal with the spicy pillow that's splitting it […] [Original post on notes.kvibber.com]

[(very early) timeline synchronicity]
Two posts in a social media timeline.

The first is an XKCD comic featuring a stick figure in conversation with a dot, representing 'the creator of the universe.'

The human is asking, 'What's the reason for baryon asymmetry? Why is most of the universe matter and not antimatter?' The dot replies, 'Crap. Did I forget the antimatter? One sec, let me just...' and then the final panel is just an explosion.

The second is a quote from one of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy novels:

'In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.'

10 years ago, a local Del Taco's mis-spaced sign offering FRE SH A VOCA DO gained immortality as "Free sha-VA-ca-doo" on Vine (remember those?). The restaurant even briefly changed their sign to offer FREE SHAVOCADO that summer. Someone at the restaurant […] [Original post on notes.kvibber.com]
A square red DEL TACO sign stands on a post above two narrower signs, one with movable lettering and the other indicating that the 'DRIVE THRU' is open late. The custom sign between them reads 'FRE SH A VOCA DO'. Behind the sign it's a mottled sky, some white, some blue. A skinny tree tied to two support poles, with mostly empty branches (but a few leaves finally starting to bud), stands next to it. Cars can be seen on the road behind the signpost, and some low buildings across the way.The other side of the sign. It's seen from a bit further away, so I used digital zoom and the image is a bit blurrier. The DEL TACO and drive-through (sorry, drive thru) signs look the same. At first it looks like the tree is missing, but it's just mostly hidden behind the signs. From this side the sky is a dull gray, and the sign reads 'FRE SH A GUACA MOLE' instead.

Reported a #NoMansSky bug today. Looks suspiciously like there was an integer overflow in the settlement economy.
Stats for a planetary settlement. Among other things, productivity is 1,724,470 units/day and maintenance cost is 617,581 units/day, which should yield around a million units surplus daily. And yet the production status indicates the settlement is in debt for -2,147,428,098 units, a debt which will be cleared in 2023371776 hours, 40 minutes, and -44 seconds.

Three book covers, each showing a line drawing of a face in profile, sketched in white on a dark background, as if glowing. The first is bald, with vague features. The second and third are more detailed, showing two different women: the second has long hair blowing past her face, and the same jawline and head shape as the first. The third has a clearly different shape to her head and jaw, and is wearing a scarf that drapes over the top and back of her head and over her shoulders.

Some photos from a walk at the botanic gardens up in the hills the weekend before last. We don't get a lot of fall color in southern California, but there are some trees that change. #trees #nature #hiking #California #squirrel #autumn #FallColors
A wide vaguely conical tree with deep red leaves. A dirt road runs in front of it, with a wooden bench facing the road. Behind it are a bunch of trees with green leaves and a clear blue sky. A signpost stands near what looks like another dirt road.Dirt road curving away to the left, lined by trees and bushes of different types. Some are still bright green, while others are bright yellow. A clear blue sky and the tops of some palm trees are visible in the distance.A brown squirrel with a bushy tail is sitting up on a narrow branch, its front paws at its mouth, its face lit by sunlight and its body in shadow. Whatever it's eating is hidden, because it's looking slightly away from the camera and to the right. The branch is covered with twigs with small, oval-shaped leaves, mostly green with red edges, some lit and some shaded. The background is a blurry, more bluish-green, with a few vertical brown blobs suggesting trees.
