Today, we published @rawkode.dev's first editorial! ArgoCD's UI is great, but Flux's architecture is inevitable.

FluxCD vs. ArgoCD: The Final Word
A definitive look at FluxCD's controller-first design and why its architectural alignment with Kubernetes offers superior security, efficiency, and operational maturity over ArgoCD.

AI is a powerful tool but it is just that. A tool. It is not a replacement for real life and it's certainly not a replacement for your brain

AI has so much promise but this is the reality. It's being used to shorten your attention span even further than it already was. It's being used to stifle critical thinking. When coupled with the algorithms of social media, it is flat out dangerous

I ran an experiment on YouTube. I deleted my entire history, subscriptions and liked videos then just started watching shorts to see how long it took. I got my first AI slop video served after approx 3h of watch time.

Even a highly skilled pilot with thousands of hours on type can suffer from confirmation bias when stress runs high. This is a solution sought by an engineer to solve a problem said engineer is facing - bias is already in the mix even for the most highly skilled. Peer review is essential.

A few years ago I wrote 3 (very) short stories that were kinda loosely linked together. In two of them I killed characters. At the weekend I read something real but relevant so went back to those stories. I've now written 6 stories and 4 are dead. All very deliberate accidents. Oops.

My first experience with voice recognition was this parrot called prody from creative labs that flew around the screen and "reacted" to voice. Years later came Siri, Google assist and even Bixby None of them could understand a full blown Lancashire accent WTF makes you think your AI can?

A fun little project I've been working on for the last few weeks bmx is a bubblemix driven Tmux session and Kubeconfig context manager written in go When dealing with lots of clusters every day it's easy to get lost where you are. I wrote this to help me maintain my sanity github.com/mproffitt/bmx

It's my better half @roshanathambyrajah.bsky.social last night in Spain before flying back to Manchester to face the ice and snow so I cooked Donald with cauliflower and potato cheese in plum, tangerine and white wine sauce. This is definitely one of my better creations.

But as you point out, namespace scoping comes with crossplane 2 and cel is just that function nobody has written yet. Still, I would love to see where kro ends up. I could see it working as a glue quite nicely whilst crossplane is more the tenon joint you've still to cut.

The arguments you make seem to be the same I have for kratix. Lots of potential, just not yet. I think the "why/what/how" is a hugely important question though but will 6 months to a year be enough for it to improve sufficiently to make that statement?

There's a reason I have 3 screens. I try to have nothing behind the terminal. I also avoid the light from the dredger but that just means general careful positioning. That said, this is about the only effect I use and only on the terminal.

Interesting to learn how many commands still require a max colour profile of 256 colours so any of the `direct` 16m colour profiles don't really work, also that most tmux themes completely ignore the menu ...

Martin Proffitt @notapipeline.bsky.social · 28/12/2024
Spent part of Christmas completely re-theming my shell so all colour-schemes move over to TokyoNight. Also writing a small helper plugin for tmux that offers a set of quick commands which overlay my session so I don't have to interrupt my workflow to quickly check something.

as I thought it would be picked up by the community and was definitely a project I expected to take off. It didn't, but I hear there is rumours of the original open source UI getting new contributions so who knows what next year will bring

Fine there's a bunch of stuff we still don't understand but hell, I'd never even looked at it before yesterday so for a project I only knew in name, to a working prototype in 2 days built off a draft PR that needed to be patched to compile, that's a rush
