Our campus in China has a wholly volunteer-run / funded student group, caring for 65+ cats in a TNR scheme. All the neutered cats have their ears clipped. And all the cats are fat, happy, spoiled, and convinced that they run the place! Because they really do.

I was recently in Dublin. This was the highlight.

@aptshadow.bsky.social In an interview printed at the end of 'The Testaments', Atwood states that everything that happens in her novels has happened in real life. Unpacking 'The Tyrant Philosophers', would we say the same? Perhaps we do not have armies of resurrected corpses, but much of what...

A bit humble compared to the beauty of the other posts, but these were found by my sister. Probably from northern Ontario.

... would have loved more! They did a great job of character development (which was always my main gripe with Discovery). And it doesn't need to be 'for me'. One of my fave trek series is Prodigy, and that was certainly not aimed at my generation 😀

I just loved living in that universe again. As an older fan, my favourite parts were those bits that were aimed at me: The Doctor's gruffness, Lura Thok's and Tilly's straight talk to the young'uns, Jet Reno doing anything, our Zaddy Vance, Jake Cisco growing up. Disliked space basketball 🤣

Had a chat with someone else on the same professional doctorate program, along the lines of.... we have 4 more years. In 4 years, I will be 55. I will either be 55 with a Dr or 55 without. Guess which one I prefer?

It's okay for us to enjoy things you don't like. I have been a Trek fan for 40+ years and am neither an adolescent nor a guy nor living in a basement. I will give this a chance. And maybe it won't be perfect, but I still want to live in that world. <3

The best sci-fi I have ever read. Feels like it's time for another re-read.

I can still remember the cover of my sisters paperback of It (the paper boat and sewer grate, with a hand coming out). I read and re-read It, and watched the miniseries as a teen. Last night, watching ep 6, I was so scared by Pennywise that my toes actually curled up. Thx for the trauma Mr King 🤣

Can't wait to take some time to savour this. Really enjoyed listening to you both! I came for the Star Trek and stayed for the new ideas, media, and great chats. ❤️

I was at my Costco (in China) the other day. As you can imagine, they also cater to a certain population. 😀 On the other hand, I love being able to buy Canadian products, and Kirkland branded stuff too.

Happy Halloween! We just watched episode 1 and super impressed!! Excellent classic horror. When Mr King says, "I'm gonna scare the hell out of you"... you just accept it. 🤣

Thank you for posting this. It was a year of research and writing well-spent. I sincerely hope that anyone involved in CPD, whether inside or outside of China, will find some inspiration ✌️

We do have 'citation boot camp': foundation academic English courses. Problem is, they are usually only for 'international' students. And they are the programmes that were cut last year. Very problematic that we assume all domestic students can cite. ALL students need lessons in academic writing.

Jane Goodall taught us we could position ourselves closer to our research context, and write the results so that the general public (rather than only academics) could understand it. She was criticized for this at first (alongside the shock that she was a woman and young and blonde....).

I have lived, and currently live, in places where connectivity has been a constant issue and / or requires a VPN. Unnecessary QRs exacerbate the digital divide.

Unbelievable!! I have lived in a few non-free, non-democratic nation-states with absolutely no freedom of speech. What they are saying and doing sounds familiar. It's absolutely chilling.

This was the best dramatic SNW episode (I do love that they lean into the absurdity as well); cried at the end. And it is sitting with me today as I go about my business. La'an had to shoot. If she hadn't, it would have been hacky. Given her past, it couldn't have been done any other way.

Very interesting. My research focus is on people who deliver CPD to in-service ELT teachers in transnational contexts. I am actually curious as to how they (I mean "we", as I also work with in-service teachers) compare with pre-service teacher educators.
