One of my dad’s favorite hobbies is gardening. He can’t do much of that anymore at 88, but today he showed me how to pot new plants from the nursery. We’re working on refreshing the view from their bedroom. It was neglected and in decline. I even got them a water feature! Beauty is good medicine.

The other shoe dropped today. My brother’s bladder tumor biopsy showed it was cancerous and needs further treatment. I’m still in Monterey helping my parents through my Dad’s cancer treatment. Plus Parkinson’s and my Mom’s dementia. It’s a lot. I’ve prescribed myself a powerful medicine.

Got my elderly parents out to brunch at the airport with my cousins who flew in with their little airplane. Plus the USAF Thunderbirds are flying out of Monterey this weekend for an airshow in nearby Salinas, so I took my parents to some good viewpoints where we could watch them!

I was at the Pacific Cancer Center this morning, helping my Dad with a Q treatment. It turned out to be a very opportune location and moment to catch the Thunderbirds departing MRY 10R on their way to practice for the California Air show at nearby SNS.

Life is full of ups and downs. Upside for me today is the only two undefeated teams in the NFL are my two favorite teams! The downside is a lot. Both my elderly parents are back in the hospital this morning and I’ve abandoned my plans for ABGT 700 at the Gorge this weekend to support them in CA.

One of my favorite events at Monterey Car Week was the Concourse d’LeMons. It was a fun little free-to-the-public event held last Saturday morning with dozens of clunkers on display, all competing for the coveted Worst in Show award.

Our world is filled with fractal symmetries, spatial and temporal. This one was a bit too on the nose; I’ve never seen a weed in my Dad’s lawn before. It was emotional. That said, his rose garden continues to bloom with exquisite grace and beauty. That’s symmetry too. There is balance.

It was Aston Day at Monterey Car Week in Carmel today. Plus, the Little Car Show over in Pacific Grove. Highlights ensue. The F1 Aston is just a show car from the previous formula, so don’t get too excited. Although it’s probably still faster than this year’s race car.

Yesterday evening my Dad handed me one of his great martinis, in our traditional family style. I’m enjoying my parents’ company despite their frailty and medical challenges that I’m here to help with. Plus the fact it’s car week makes it more fun too.

My Dad got through the biopsy surgery very well, however it does look like we’re going to have a cancer journey to go through. Meanwhile, I’ve been helping my parents recover from a scam and resecuring all their tech. Took an hour of me time to see the start of Car Week, in downtown Monterey.

Staying overnight at SLAC while my Dad gets his surgery at Stanford Hospital today. TIL the camera for the big Vera Rubin telescope was designed and built here! It’s the biggest digital camera ever made. And I found the eastern terminus of the historic linear accelerator.

Back at the ancestral home. Helping my parents as my Dad gets surgery this week. It’s relatively minor, but any surgery at all when you’re 88 is scary. If all goes well I’ll be using the recovery time to work through a long list of other elder care issues that need addressing.

Welp, it seems the post I made a week ago never actually posted! I got my parents home safely from the Alaska cruise (No ship’s doctor visits!) and all is well. They’re so fragile and fluffy brained, yet think they’re maybe 50. Tough sledding. But precious time. Im so grateful!

I had to cancel plans for tea at Buchart Gardens tomorrow. It was just too much for my elderly parents on top of packing to fly home the next day. But we had an excellent dinner of caviar and king crab tonight! Now I’m decompressing in my stateroom before tomorrow’s challenges.

Kinda a cool thing about high latitudes. We’re a bit further south now than when I took the daylight picture of me at 11:00pm. Now it’s 11:30pm, but there’s still a little sunset twilight on the horizon. And it’s not to west but due north!

High adventure! I rode on a jet boat that can go 30mph in just six inches of water up the Stikine River 35 miles into pristine wilderness to see the toe of the Shakes Glacier. On the way back to the ship we lost an engine and had to be rescued by a second boat. That was adventurous and fun too!

It’s glacier day today! Visiting the Hubbard Glacier, a tidewater glacier fed by two of the highest mountains in North America; Mt. St. Elias and Mt. Logan. Both in excess of 5000m. The glacier is massive, miles wide, and one of the few advancing glaciers left on Earth.

Starting my next adventure today, escorting my elderly parents on a 12 day cruise of Alaska. It begins with a short flight to Vancouver BC. And boy did I cut it close… My suitcase clocked in at 49.5 lbs.

I read today the gas engine cars at Disneyland’s Autopia I loved to drive as a kid will be replaced with electric cars in ‘27. The gas power was great! It felt like I was driving a real car, not just a golf cart. The noise, even the smell of the exhaust was something to be relished!
