I'm having fun making something new today - a prop for one of our writing courses. But what do you think this slightly shocked looking little thing is going to be...? #Horror #HorrorWriting #writingcommunity
Collage of leaves, images of bats, bottles, hares, frogs, toads, newts, owls. Shapes cut into surface to make comedic looking but accidental shocked eyes and mouth

It's new notebook day! These beauts are handmade specially for me by TwinkleFox and are my monthly writerly treat. Such *Needful Things* ((murmurs: You can never have too many notebooks. Especially creepy ones)) Look closely at the mug you'll see a flock of bats... #horrorbooks #horrorstories
handmade notebooks. One with a haunted house cover on top of partially visible one with shaow people. Old fashioned print on cream background. Glossy burgundy spines.

We're big fans of short stories here at NHH - those bite-sized bloody chunks that can be gobbled down at a single sitting. What are your favourite collections? We'll share some of ours here starting with Out There Screaming: An Anthology of New Black Horror (Ed. Jordan Peele 2023). #Horror #Reading

Another venue, you ask? Why yes, for your writing pleasure ((swooshes her mossy cloak, picks a mushroom from her antlers and pops it in her mouth)). Who fancies writing eco-horror in the forest? There's even a classroom hidden in the trees... #writinghorror #horrorbooks #ecohorror #woods #forest

Our next venue for writing courses this autumn is The Watch House Museum at Tynemouth, facing the ocean and full of arcane artefacts. Write about great sea beasts, fog banks full of eldritch creatures and dark folklore. Watch for coming events and workshops. #writinghorror #eldritch #DarkFolklore

Planning for the autumn, when it's safe for we denizens of the darkness to emerge again without turning to dust. We shall be lurking in this gorgeous library at Bensham Grove in Gateshead, working on gothic delights...more details to follow shortly. #horrorbooks #HorrorWriting #gothic #darkacademia

We love Thistlebone by TC Eglington and illustrated by the mighty Simon Davis. We're lucky enough to own some of his dark folklorish art ((strokes art with a smug yet bony claw)). Follow in comments to see his glorious portraits and stellar graphic novel work #graphicnovel #folklore #folkhorror

I'm looking for uneasy places in northern England to inspire flash fiction. Not castles or gothic mansions. Lost, unnoticed, industrial places where darkness gathers. Can you suggest a place? I love the way shadows coalesced under this bridge, pooling more than water. #horrorwriters #FlashFiction

I've collected Pan Horror forever. The first thing that attracted me was the cover art. I stayed for the stories. Those piquant tastes of ideas have always made my mind thrum with possibilities. Do you love them or are there other anthologies you prefer? #Horror #Anthologies #shortstoriescollection

A dark folklorish northern event, you say? I offer the Northern Horror Hub's favourite, the Whitby Krampus Run. Elaine and Laurence have created a warm, creative powerhouse community that celebrates the wheel of the year with a range of events, culminating in the Krampus Run. youtu.be/RmYVaj-xKJM

Could there *BE* an author or book more perfect to celebrate on Northern Horror Hub? @davidmbarnett.bsky.social's latest novel Scratch Moss is set in a northern mining town - and it's a folk horror triumph. In true folk horror style, this isolated and insular community holds dark secrets.

Our house is next to 900 acres of forest. The noises of the dark woods creep into my dreams and emerge in my writing. We build dens. As darkness falls, they look like otherworldly portals. The 3rd photo (no effects) is swirling. I didn't see it until I was home. A simple walk sparked a story...

((slithers in and dips icy claws into your popcorn)) What are ya watching? I'm rewatching She Will (2022)- starring the peerless Alice Krige. Sumptuous cinematography, a soundtrack I can't stop listening (and writing!) to, and a compelling narrative. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gh3t...
