nori_gory’s review published on Letterboxd:
A sweet, charming film.

Was hoping for more moments of laughing, considering the talent of the cast, but it's a more quiet internal chuckle being illicited by the second hand tension of Steve Martin putting up with John Candy. Sort of an odd couple pairing, plus hijinks and some emotional pathos and growth.

Love it. Love it so much, perfect film, no notes.

Great action sequences, extremely lovable cast of charming scallywags and cool antiquated aesthetic.

Having never seen the original Universal Mummy movies, I never really made the connection to why that time period was chosen, but I'm glad it was because the style speaks to me. Rachel Weiss is gorgeous, and her thin eyebrow commitment truly impressive.

Peter Pan1953

Rewatched 14 Jul 2026

nori_gory’s review published on Letterboxd:
Utterly classic film, pulling at the heartstrings; serving up huge waves of nostalgia especially as each iconic moment from this animation was probably watched by me and a million other children hundreds, if not thousands of times.

The music slaps, each song like a warm cup of cocoa to the soul, or a hug that makes you fly, or a play sesh that remains epic for all time.

The villains villain very villainly, with Hook and Smee being one of the best match ups of unlikely pairs ever in cinematic history. Odd couple energy, slightly abusive, fantastically stupid slapstick. Love to see it. And the ticking crocodile, a fave.

The Hunchback of Notre Dame1996

Watched 12 Jul 2026

nori_gory’s review published on Letterboxd:
I'm a huge fan of the book, Notre Dame de Paris by Victor Hugo. This is a very Disney adaptation, from their Renaissance era, no less.

Some marvelous songs and epic score, I remember the emotionally charged environment and vibes of the film from when I was a child, but did not remember most else. Rediscovering as an adult is a delightful treat.

There are many differences from the book, many nuances lost or changed. The loathsome characters abound in the book, with nary a charitable soul to be mentioned. The exception may be the Notre Dame herself, the star of the novel.

Disney lightened that darkness significantly, but left all the evil to Rollo. Evil parenting, evil management, evil moral grandstanding, just the worst. But then there's love and happy endings for Esmeralda and her beau. Nothing but friendship and a spin-off TV show for Quasimodo and the gargoyles.

Oof. Chosen because early Jim Carey flick. Very campy schlock horror comedy, from what feels like a bygone era, the 80s.

Watched 12 Jul 2026

nori_gory’s review published on Letterboxd:
Cult classic gold!

Absolute gem of a film. Love the ultra 90s editing style that gives it that action cool kinetic feel; it's about hacking so of course we need to see how that feels.

Great cast, being so undeniably cool and badass in their edgy hacker outfits. I legit love the style, and may have stolen some of Jolie's makeup looks without realizing over the years. I always want to shout out Matthew Lillard for being weird as fuck. Why does he have a random toothbrush with him in this?

Super camp villainy and cyber coolness abound.

I didn't hate it. Kind of a standard rehash of the first films' themes exploring parental love and governing styles, with some attempted genocide and race warfare.

Visually quite a pretty film, emotionally compelling and well acted. Legacy stars like Angelina Jolie and Michelle Pfeiffer still show up and bring it.

Amazing film. Stellar animation. Intense action sequences, beautifully done.

Poignant emotional character growth, that's another thing we've come to expect from this series. The first movie was so fantastic it set the bar crazy high. And this sequel delivers in spades.

Building upon the spider-verse lore, expanding what we already knew, and setting us up for the final installment in this Spidey-story.

nori_gory’s review published on Letterboxd:
Hell yeah!

Love this film. Brendan Fraser is crazy charismatic and entertaining, and that's while playing a character that's not all together that likeable. He's a dweeb with dumb ideas and no social skills, the modern day equivalent might be an incel.

But that's okay, because we get to watch the hot devil Liz Hurley, who is actually playing the devil, playfully torture him. Until he gets it, and learns how to be a good selfless person, freeing his soul from the devil's grasp.

The romps and gags in this film are imprinted on my memory, that is how funny they are. A fantastic use of wigs and costumes (and prosthetics) as the charming cast get to play a whole range of eccentric characters in this mythic fable for the ages.

Ah, my childhood. This got me through it.

I remember early morning cartoons, the TV show The Little Mermaid being one of our very favorites. Waking up excited to see what Ariel was up to now. I also had the computer game with Flounder.

And with all that nostalgia, how's the movie? Also fabulous? Yes, and thank you.

Some of the best songs in Disney canon, fight me if you say otherwise.

nori_gory’s review published on Letterboxd:
I have come around on romantic comedies, generally loving a well crafted one with strong charismatic leads. That's what we got here, characters with just enough complexity to undergo major emotional growth in a simple enough premise. Boss getting deported and needs sudden fiance is fantastically contrived, but they make it work. Solid hate to love progression, several recurring gags, and super hot cast. I mean talented.

Not sure this rendition of the classic Dahl story gives the most comfort to me, as it predominantly creeped me out for real. Zemeckis has a tendency to do that sometimes. Hathaway seemed to love whatever it was she was doing, but that accent was a crime. I think I needed it to be more silly, less scary.

This very much feels like a stage play, that somehow Tarantino has transposed to film. It is long, it can be tedious, and the pay off depends a lot on how much you want to see these people die. So there's that at least.

Does it satisfy our cinematic bloodlust like his previous historical reimaginings? Eh, a little? S'ok, I guess.

Hugely hyped before watching, and going in blind, what an experience. It's rare to find new movies that can give that feeling of enjoyment. Goslings' relentless charm successfully carries a science concept film from Earth to another species habitated world. His cool (which is not necessarily that kind of cool) transcends human language; forging friendships with other civilisations, and saving both from extinction.

But mostly it's a heart warming buddy flick. Two loners in outer space meet and find ways to communicate, and thus save each other and their worlds.

Very interesting and odd film. Really cool animation style, feeling very 90s Disney Renaissance classic 2D with that blend of early CGI and thus surprised me with actually being released in 2002. The cast is star studded, a standard choice now but still a new concept to animated films at the time. Okay, maybe not 'star studded', just actors that I tend to fawn over like Emma Thompson and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

The story is okay but forgettable. Honestly, I need to watch this again because of how little has been retained in my necrotic ancient brain.

Made in the era when sequels were routinely considered subpar to the originals, this is no exception.

Somehow trying to latch onto some of what the first film had and give us more, just it's never going to be able to do that. Weird fast pacing and a weaker story overall are it's main detriments, but it's fairly okay, as far as trashy 90s sci-fi/action slop is concerned.

Obviously, the music is great. The visuals and cinematic artistry is insane. Off the wall, even. Basically, every cool idea that could be put into a movie like this was. There's animation sequences, stop motion vignettes, reenactments of iconic video clips with child actors, live performances and extended video clips, all merged together into a semi coherent story. Starring superstar Michael Jackson. It's so fucking weird and wonderful. I'm a little scared of it.

Such a genuinely great film. It handles such difficult and mature topics beautifully (even if the age gap is still weird to me. And his former employment as a sex worker, but damn, love, ya know?)

The music, the dancing, the performances, the freaking cinematography and mise en scène even are all iconic because they so perfectly captured that feeling. Youth growing into a more confident phase of life, adulthood. She's not Baby after this summer. And no one's putting her in a corner.

The morals of the film are timeless. The characters, their actions helping others, correcting the wrongs of the world as they come by them, it's exactly the kind of thing people need to believe in for real. Just knowing good exists can make a difference, and this movie provides just that.

Such a random and delightful find. Chosen because of the cast highlighted on the thumbnail, Brendan Fraser, check, Matt Damon and Ben Affleck. All young still. And I'd never heard of this film before.

Emotionally charged, well made, well acted. Set in the not so distant past, (the 50s?), Fraser is a fish out of water going to a new school in a different state, with a different class of school mates, prep kids. He uses his charm and athletic abilities to win the day, combating societies injustices against him, without degrading himself with violence.
