So sorry for your loss. Make sure you look after yourself x

It was quite odd too as you really felt the atmosphere was a dome.

There was a fabulous cloudscape over the house a little while ago. I’m sure it presages bad weather but it was pretty to look at as I wheeled the bins back.
An awe inspiring cloudy sky made more impressive with the sunlight and silhouettes

Exhausting but fun. Nice to spend time with my friend as well as sightseeing! Have a stinking cold now which is a bit of a downer

We managed that sort of Christmas last year so this year will be far more full on family. I’m both looking forward to it and dreading it. M and I are hermits by nature but also know that family time is inevitably finite…

Amazingly the trains in Italy have been ok!

I wasn’t reckless enough to have started with such a short transfer time - I should have had over 2 hours but delays out of Rome caused the issue. It is convenient flying from Norwich for getting/to and fro from home but the transfers can be brutal!

Sarah @norfolkbookworm.bsky.social · 12/10/2026
When you have a transfer time at Schiphol of only 36 minutes & your new gate is 27 minutes away including passport control it is stressful. Then your passport doesn’t work in the e-gates so you have to join a new queue. I made it with 3 minutes to spare only for the flight to be delayed 45 mins 🤦‍♀️

I really liked this one when I read it - it was really evocative and at times claustrophobic

Thank you - I’ve made it a bit complicated by wanting to fly into Norwich so have to go via Amsterdam, it works out less expensive than Ryan Air to Stansted when you factor in train fares (and even a hotel the night before) but slightly stressful transiting at Schiphol!

Morning all, a day of travel home from Rome today and while I'm still reading I, Claudius I think I might need something a bit less immersive so I don't miss any of my connections so I will pick something fun and random from my kindle when I get to the airport! Happy reading!

We’ve booked a few things but plan on spending lots of time wandering and soaking up the experience. Oh and of course holiday reading is I, Claudius!

I’m off to Rome tomorrow so I’m hoping all of the walking will let me enjoy gelato/pasta/Aperol without too much guilt… Enjoy the outdoor swim

I'm going away for a few days tomorrow and really need to pack and sort out all sorts of things *but* the cat is asleep on my lap so of course I can't do anything. Not stressed at all, honest... 🐈‍⬛🧳

I’ve read 80 books in translation this year and yet when the @womenintranslation.bsky.social longlist was announced I’d only read 2 of them and heard of a third - the world is huge even when you consciously try to read around it!

This is probably my favourite of Pulley's books. Dark, and as you say bleak, but so well written and compelling

Morning all! This week I will be hoping to read Robert Graves I, Claudius and/or Elif Shafak's new book In One Brief Moment All Eternity as fiction picks. In non fiction I will be continuing Xand van Tulleken's Make Me Well A busy but fun week ahead so I think limited reading time tho 😕

My brother in law has been in Norfolk visiting this weekend (at a hotel not in the house thankfully) and it has been exhausting - he and M are more different than chalk and cheese, but thanks to the glorious weather it has been just about bearable.

Having read the 2nd Sally Carson book “The Prisoner” from Persephone Press and enjoying it (although not quite so much as “Crooked Cross”) I was very pleased to see that they’ve confirmed the final book in the trilogy will be out next April. That will be going on my birthday list! 💙📚 #BookSky

I like Australian Masterchef and Pottery Throwdown but I record them all and just watch parts of each episodes - like you I generally prefer books!

This little squirrel really didn’t have any fear today, pretty much sat on M’s foot eating his acorn. It seemed quite small compared to the others so we assumed a late kit.

Morning all. This week I'm reading You Know the Sun by Falzon (tr. Gatt) from @foundryeditions.bsky.social - this will tick Malta off my #ReadTheWorld project. Non fiction is Meera Syal's Vigilauntie. Plus of course anything new and shiny that catches my eye! Happy reading!

Another beautiful lunchtime here in Norfolk so after a walk around one of the local nature reserves we managed lunch outside, by the river, watching the sailing.
A sunny view of a river with blue skies and fluffy clouds - there are several sailboats with white sails coming towards the camera

This week is #MigraineAwarenessWeek so of course my migraines are taking this week to make me very aware of them. Not had one this bad for months and I think that after the pain it's the heightened sense of smell that's the worst thing. Or the blind spots and dancing lights... #poorly

I’m persevering with How Can My Manager Be So Stupid but like Kyoko in the book I’m just not really connecting with it. One thing is true however is that however screwed up it was working for a chain bookstore 20 years ago that has nothing on Japanese book selling 😳 #BookSky 💙📚

So I don’t think How Can My Manager Be So Stupid is going to get me over my Cazalet book-hangover. It is amusing, cringe inducing, & also horribly familiar as someone who’s worked in a bookshop *but* I have a feeling that it going to be another enemies to lovers story. Hope I’m wrong 🤞🏻 #BookSky 💙📚

Late to the party this week as I had an early start and busy day. I'm currently enjoying Mary Lawson's Solace in Winter and also The Book of Riga from @commapress.bsky.social Dipping into some travel books as well as I plan two short breaks! Hope everyone had a good (reading) week!

I enjoyed this one, and felt it pulled together a lot of threads of research that's she'd done for other books but in a clever way. Bonus points from me because of the East Anglian setting!

On a walk yesterday where we expected to see fungi but didn’t we were rewarded with lots today. If anyone in the Norwich area can recommend where we might see fly agarics as they start to appear I’d be grateful as I’ve only seen a few in Kent in recent years. #mushroom #toadstools 🍄

I absolutely loved the follow on Cazalet novel from Louisa Young, first time in ages I’ve found an authorised sequel that was as good (almost better) than the original. I have a real book hangover but hopefully my new library book will dispell it! Japanese fiction book cure? 💙📚 #BookSky

I have an eczema flare currently and it's all over my dominant hand. It is so hard to get enough emollient on the affected area *and* continue with daily life. I'm leaving greasy smears all over the place and having to be careful not to get it on the cat - paraffin isn't good for them I'm sure!

Oh wow - that MA sounds wonderful. Studying later in life was much more fun than under pressure as a teenager - life experience adds a lot to it. I think my favourite from A Levels was The Lover by Duras (looking back an odd choice for 16yo in an all girls school) but I still enjoy her novels now

I wish I could say my French was still good enough to do this but it was an eclectic course as we also read Marguerite Duras. German lit included the Diary of Anne Frank in German, Sophie & Hans Scholl and Max Frisch. Couldn’t open a bank account or other basic tasks in either country tho!

Morning all! I'm struggling with what are supposed to be this autumn's best reads & DNF'd 2 this week. Trying again with Louisa Young's The Golden Hours. Translated fiction will be Abdulai Sila's The Ultimate Tragedy. Non fiction is Freddie Mercury/Mary Austin's A Life in Lyrics. Happy reading!
