Oliver Getz @nordicscoring.com · 26/09/2026Just watched Return to Silent Hill. Pros: some fun video game-y shots, setting and atmosphere was spot on. Cons: James felt unbothered by it all for most of the film, CGI was a bit unconvincing, Silent Hill never felt dangerous. Slower, spookier build-up and practical effects would be nice. 000
Oliver Getz @nordicscoring.com · 29/08/2026Raised €8k to spend on TTRPG events in my area. I'll be buying books and resources for our library. I have a plan already, but still open for suggestions, particularly looking for varying complexity, themes, and stuff that can make organising games easier. Bonus if it's from the nordics. #ttrpg 020

Oliver Getz @nordicscoring.com · 04/08/2026Haha yeeeah 😅 I have good memories from my time living there, but I can't see myself going back. I even stopped attending conferences I used to frequent. Hope it gets sorted somehow, but I suspect the corruption runs deep. Europe could do with driven Americans looking for a culture change tho:) 110
Oliver Getz @nordicscoring.com · 04/08/2026If anyone comes across this, I highly recommend reading Dominic's replies. I avoid places that implement tipping like the plague, but he makes some great points. If I ever find myself in the US again, I will likely even tip. ...just please don't export that culture across the pond, thank you. 110
Oliver Getz @nordicscoring.com · 04/08/2026Not at all, it was a great and nuanced read. Thanks for taking the time to explain. You obviously have more experience with this than I, a person who rarely even go out to eat, and I think you nudged me in the direction of "tipping is a necessary evil in some situations". 010
Oliver Getz @nordicscoring.com · 04/08/2026I've never thought about the fee as having shifted from a tip to a commission, that's a good analogy! 000
Oliver Getz @nordicscoring.com · 04/08/2026Regarding (1), it seems to me like you're saying "don't go to restaurants with tipping". Is that right? How is that different from not tipping, in your view? If the restaurant goes bankrupt, their employees will lose their jobs, which is arguably worse than not getting tips. 100
Oliver Getz @nordicscoring.com · 04/08/2026I think you've helped me identify a situation in which I would also tip. 110
Oliver Getz @nordicscoring.com · 04/08/2026A few have even been subjected to violence just by showing up to a protest. I can't view that as a system willing to change. But if your officials are truly listening and eager to serve, regulation is possible, and change is evident, service workers should 100% be supported through it. 110
Oliver Getz @nordicscoring.com · 04/08/2026I don't know at which level this is regulated (I assume locally) or how possible it is to influence politics where you are from, but none of my US friends have any trust left in the system and thats my reference. 100
Oliver Getz @nordicscoring.com · 04/08/2026Just so I understand, are you saying that the reason behind US tipping culture is that people in the US would stop spending money at restaurants if the prices were higher, so they have to resort to tipping as a means of flexible pricing instead to not go bankrupt? Or am I misunderstanding the point? 100

Oliver Getz @nordicscoring.com · 29/07/2026New hobby unlocked: open street mapping! I have an issue feeling unproductive when just taking a stroll, so this has been one way of giving myself a reason to go out. There are errors here and there, and some Norwegian services rely on it (Entur too i believe). Recommended! 010
Oliver Getz @nordicscoring.com · 29/07/2026Workers need to be/get angry, and they need to organize. It's the only way. 100
Oliver Getz @nordicscoring.com · 29/07/2026It sure won't start with employers, and as stated, workers with their head above water won't rock the boat. As prices get higher, the business will offload the cost through higher expected tips (as is currently happening). What solution do you have that will improve the situation? 100
Oliver Getz @nordicscoring.com · 29/07/2026No it doesn't. But workers that get by don't revolt out of fear of rocking the boat. Nothing will change if people keep tipping. You said it yourself, it's been going on for decades and decades, nothing has changed. 110
Oliver Getz @nordicscoring.com · 29/07/2026Loool it's so much worse though. I receive way less info about what the game is about/how it's played. Do you HAVE to use them or are they just suggested? 000
Oliver Getz @nordicscoring.com · 29/07/2026If not tipping makes me an asshole, I'm happy to be an asshole. Also, if you work in service: please organise and fix your problem. Start by meeting privately and talking about the pay. Worst thing about globalisation is US companies trying to sneak their shitty anti-worker practices into Norway. 110
Oliver Getz @nordicscoring.com · 29/07/2026Highly recommend organising locally. If there are no options, you could likely set one up in a weekend if your country's digital infrastructure is okay. They tend not to come with the same stipulations as companies, eg. leaner accounting rules, so you don't have tons of responsibility when starting 110
Oliver Getz @nordicscoring.com · 29/07/2026@gainorway.com for instance is connected to other similar organizations (mostly LatAm and Europe, the US organisations have been a bit apathetic) through Game Audio International Alliance. 110
Oliver Getz @nordicscoring.com · 29/07/2026Since it's a union of businesses and not workers, and Steam is not your employers, it will be more like a trade association. And the best way, imo, is to connect many local trade associations through an international one. People already organize locally (source: am a union co-founder). 120
Oliver Getz @nordicscoring.com · 29/07/2026Wether it's legal depends on your country I guess, but any functioning democracy protects unions. I also imagine it will be a lot easier than unionizing against an employer, as it will be difficult for Steam to circumvent the union once it is up and has members. 120

Oliver Getz @nordicscoring.com · 12/01/2026RPG tip of the day: if you want to make encounters more difficult, please don’t increase enemy HP. It makes encounters long and boring. Increase average damage per round and improve enemy tactics. Excitement is on that fine line when players don’t know if they’ll win or lose. More rounds won’t help. 052
