Surprisingly, we DID NOT find evidence for attentional pre-allocation to focused words, as reflected through EEG alpha power.
Instead, alpha modulated memory encoding and depth of processing on a trial by trial basis, suggesting that preparatory alpha in language reflects an encoding-ready state.
