Weird what’s this

Anthropologists, thousands of years from now, will quibble whether it was Coke Zero changing its name to Coke Zero Sugar or the appearance or the packaging of water into cans that said “death,” but what will be clear to all is that it was beverage-related. And for my money, it’s this:
A 16 fl oz can of Blue Raspberry Sour Patch Kids flavored Ghost energy drink.

As an American, this pains me, but Carney is right. Our allies need to move on without the United States.
perspective. Starmer was still cautious, though-the West had to salvage it relationship with America, he told Carney. "We don't have a relationship to keep!" Carney replied.

Absolutely devastating. If this isn’t Democrats’ midterm messaging, wtf are we even doing.
In effect, for every $1 cut from programs for low-income Americans, the wealthiest 1% will get about $1 back in tax breaks.

The old Vulcan proverb: only Nixon could go to China.
Vance called Nixon a political genius and said the former Republican president's legacy was
"enjoying a bit of a renaissance," with attention being focused on Nixon's diplomatic efforts to end the Vietnam War and open relations with China.

Everyone should read this. Not just to visualize what the Times did to trans people, but to see how much editorial framing matters.
While I am certain with every fiber of my being that in the decades to come we will eventually see apologies and regrets by the Times over the types of coverage they engaged in, much as they've had to do for countless other historical mistakes, I want this article to be a record to independently show what happened, how it happened, and the effects it had on the trans community. They cannot be allowed to forget even if some may eventually choose to forgive. I, for one, don't think I ever will.

The thing that gets me the most isn’t the actions of conservatives, but the callousness of everyone else. “We’re terminating your care, here’s the number to the suicide hotline.” JFC.
When Penn State Health informed Elliot that it
was going to be abruptly terminating care for
trans youth, he was disappointed that instead
of giving him real resources the hospital gave
him the number of a suicide hotline. Now, that
letter hangs on Elliot's wall. He often turns

I can’t imagine someone who embraces the values of Star Trek less than Elon Musk.
He said that he has been worried about Al in his college years, that it could be a "double-edged sword," one that could "solve all the diseases and make everyone prosperous, or it could kill us all." *START HIGHLIGHTING* He suggested that Al had two outcomes: the utopian Star Trek one, or the dystopian Terminator one. He wants the future to be more like Gene Roddenberry's and not like James Cameron's. *END HIGHLIGHTING* This was his intention in cofounding OpenAI.

Uhhh
Johnston points out that the amount of oil and gas that could be taken off the table is roughly the same amount of demand that was shed during the initial global shutdown in 2020 from the pandemic.

"If the strait does not reopen, people are like, 'Is this recessionary?' I'm like, 'No, it's depressionary. This will be so, so, so, so, so bad," he says. "We're talking about Covid-level demand loss, no cars on the road, no planes in the sky, but with no pandemic."

Class rules everything in America. Just work with high-earning professionals and you’ll get a feel for it. They have people to take care of things for them, so they can spend the long hours in the office they tell us are virtuous. We can’t afford landscapers and nannies and dog walkers.
whether it matters if I don't have free will. I have a lot of opportunities to hang out in my mind palace, because I do a lot of mundane chores, like grocery shopping, laundry, and picking up after myself.

The ultra-wealthy don't have to do any of this.
They pay people to do it for them — cooking, cleaning, shopping, you name it. There are no periods of the day where they are forced to figure out how to entertain themselves in the face of repetitive chores. If you don't use it, you lose it — so maybe a lot of them lose introspection. In fact, they can offload any cognitive activity they don't enjoy! That's what subordinates are for, isn't it? And whatever gets consistently offloaded, they lose.

I love my District 3 councilors.
"Mr. Owendoff — Shut your racist mouth and stop cluttering up our emails," Novick wrote in a reply-all response from his government account about an hour later, according to a copy of the exchange obtained by The Oregonian/OregonLive.

Minutes after, Novick issued a second reply-all remark: "In addition, Mr. Owendoff, I would strongly advise you to (f---) yourself in the heart," using the expletive in full.

This is missing key context that the statement was rushed through and appears to be directed by political concerns. There are not “evolving professional guidelines.”
Republicans also raised the question of evolving professional guidelines, in Europe and in the United States, over when minors should receive puberty blockers, hormone therapy and surgery.

*Highlighted* Most significantly, The American Society of Plastic Surgeons recently recommended that surgeons delay gender-related surgery until a patient is at least 19, citing the low certainty of evidence showing a benefit and the irreversible consequences of surgery for minors. *end highlighting*

The group's statement condemned efforts to criminalize gender-affirming care and said physicians should be allowed to exercise their professional judgement, guided by professional ethics.

So, it’s exactly what we thought.
And, again: OpenAl's agreement says it will allow anything the US government determines is legal. Even its assurances that it will only follow current laws and policies, not ones that are changed or reissued, may not offer meaningful safeguards. In the past, agencies have reinterpreted existing laws in ways that effectively allow them new powers. And the Trump administration has claimed laws like the International Emergency Economic Powers Act justify unprecedented presidential powers like imposing global tariffs. These powers have, in fact, sometimes been declared illegal — but only after months of legal battles, during which OpenAl would have to either follow the administration's orders or make an independent judgment call about the law.
Altman has publicly stated that, unlike Anthropic, OpenAl is "generally quite comfortable with the laws of the US."

I relate a lot to Portland’s new Council President
"This is not something that I have been seeking and is not something I am excited about," said Dunphy, as deliberations that began in a meeting seven days ago neared their 12th and final hour Wednesday afternoon. "But if the only way out of an entrenched 6-6 stalemate is for me to step into this role, then I'm willing, not happy, but willing to do this in service of this institution."

We really need local hotels or someone to sue Fox over this defamation against our city. The continual lies and misrepresentations are hurting us.
On Sept. 28, the day Trump's order was implemented, a Fox News broadcast played a clip of Kotek saying that Guard troops were not needed in Portland, then immediately cut to a clip of a hectic scene of protesters clashing with police.

"Wish she could see some of those images," the anchor said. Sarcastically, as a co-anchor chuckled, she added: "Look at that. Just a peaceful protest."

A small box on the screen showed the footage wasn't from Oregon.

It was from Illinois.

I’m sorry, what is the mixed picture here @wsj.com? www.wsj.com/us-news/port...
Screenshot of Wall Street Journal article with the first sentence highlighted. It reads: “A Wall Street Journal reporter driving around Portland in recent days found a mixed picture. The city center was placid, with cobblestone strels and modern streetcars clanging past. Downtown has struggled to attract businesses after 2020 protests and the pandemic, but is rebounding. A recent report from the Major Cities Chiefs Association, a group representing police officials, showed decreased violent crime in Portland during the first half of 2025, including a 51% drop in homicides compared with the same period last year.”

Maybe I’m just too old now, but why in the world would you write a Reddit post with AI? arstechnica.com/ai/2025/08/c...
On the OpenAl community forums and Reddit, long-time chatters are expressing sorrow at losing access to models like GPT-40. They explain the feeling as "mentally devastating," and "like a buddy of mine has been replaced by a customer service representative." These threads are fu' of people pledging to end their paid subscriptions. It's worth noting, though, that many of these posts look to us like they have been composed partially or entirely with Al. So even when long-time chat users are complaining, they're still engaged with generative artificial intelligence.
