I'm a resident of the Twin Cities. A small team and I spent 3 days sculpting this for a competition/festival in extremely cold temperatures. We were disqualified for political messaging and one of the organizers defaced it. I have no regrets and I have never been more proud to be Minnesotan. (cont)

Each generation must fight to make the promise of democracy real in their generation. - Rev. William H. Lamar IV, pastor of Metropolitan African Methodist Episcopal Church

Rev. William H. Lamar IV, pastor of Metropolitan African Methodist Episcopal Church on The National Mall (Washington DC) at a podium in front of a large ice sculpture spelling out DEMOCRACY

Text overlay: "Democracy has no children or grandchildren. Each and every generation must fight to make the promise of democracy real in their generation.
I believe that most of us felt like the fights that our ancestors fought were over. But what we must understand - for the rest of our days - we can not allow ourselves to think that
'what we have won we can keep.'
We can only keep it if we build the power to keep it."

ICE arrested comedian Robby Roadsteamer for singing a parody of Rod Stewart’s “Do Ya Think I’m Sexy” in a Jeffrey Epstein the Giraffe costume outside their facility. He sings “If you hate brown people / and you are a Nazi” and ICE thugs grab him and drag him into detention. No violence—just speech.

What we like about these sculptures is that they are very popular in the best sense of the word, people love to touch them, but in the shape of a word, to see them meltdown and vanish, they take on a completely different meaning. -MR
