I tried to be fair when limiting myself to 9 games that shaped me, with only one per franchise (otherwise Final Fantasy VI and X would’ve snuck in too, somehow, somewhere). Honestly, I think I’ve done a pretty decent job of summing up my origin story? Hard toss up between KH1 and KH2, though.

I did consider grabbing Star Wars Zero Company, but decided I should probably actually finish Marvel’s Midnight Suns first - Marvel is more my thing, and it’s the same genre, so it's close enough. The problem is I LOVE half of Midnight Suns and absolutely HATE the other half. So... this’ll be fun?

Hot take: Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is so, so much better than the first game. I gave the original about 10 hours, but I just couldn’t get on with how clunky and awkward it all felt. XC2 has hooked me almost immediately. Night and day.

You know what? I genuinely really like Highguard. Even more when my most recent end screen confirms I was the one that carried (kills-wise, at least - the game itself was horrendously close)

While my Nintendo 2025 in Review absolutely pales in comparison to some people’s, it still turns out I put way more time into the Switch 2 than I thought! Pretty sure I’ll beat those numbers this year on Animal Crossing alone… 🏝️

Nintendo 2025 Year in Review summary for Nick. Played 26 total games for 165 hours. Favourite game is The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition with 9 hours played. 2.5 hours of RNG pain, endless random battles, and level-ups… all to make *this* prick finally show up in Final Fantasy I. Gained 20 levels in the process and then completely bodied the series’ first ever “superboss.” Worth it. I think.

I only played the first few levels of Kirby and the Forgotten Land when it first got released, so I’ve started playing the Nintendo Switch 2 edition and my god, it’s fantastic. Really enjoying it this time around. Looking forward to jumping into the Star-Crossed World stuff, too.
