a Borzoi! a whimsical-looking sighthound, the Borzoi’s prey drive is no joke, and neither is their love for sleep! they need about an hour of exercise a day and then are happy to snuggle up on the sofa! more inclined to be spontaneous than a Greyhound or Whippet, they make excellent family dogs :)

Beagles!! these dogs are such brilliant companions and family dogs! great with kids, great with other dogs prone to some health issues and quite noisy, but i don’t mind that! shed quite a lot and roll in things, but that can be managed with regular baths and de-sheds :)

a Basenji! gorgeous, brilliant dogs! so clever, brilliant agility and obedience dogs! minimal grooming requirements fantastic companions, good family dogs for those prepared to fulfil them relatively independent and aloof with strangers :) also, they don’t bark like regular dogs :)

Irish Water Spaniel! much like the Curly Coated Retriever, IWS are such majestic swimmers and excellent hunters! the ideal family pet for those that have time and interest in working and grooming a Gundog breed! equal parts: gentle baby, and big old goof :) definitely the most underrated Spaniel!

a Field Spaniel! very similar to a Cocker in looks, but taller and stockier :) absolutely stunning babies, they live to work and they work to live! more independent than other spaniels, but that doesn’t mean they’ll leave you alone for long! don’t expect those feathers to stay clean though :)

speaking of English creatures i allow in my house, the Springer Spaniel! will work for hours and then sleep like they pay rent beyond crackers, but that’s part of the charm! adorable, sock thieves, shoe thieves, anything they can get their mouthes on thieves! hard workers, 10 yard stare included :)

an English Cocker Spaniel! the focus on these babies is frightening 😅 they are excellent flushing and working dogs, very handler-focused! and when i say focused, i mean obsessed hehe not the dog for people that want an independent dog, they’re extremely volatile when they go self-employed :)

Labradors are absolutely top 10 dogs of all time! they’re so clever, strong, beautiful and there is genuinely nothing that they cannot do! they love working so much, but i definitely wouldn’t recommend a working line Lab to just anyone, especially a Red Fox! they are brilliant family dogs :)

Curly Coated Retriever!! such stunning dogs, and they look especially graceful when swimming! be warned, these dogs are rarely out of the water and they love to roll in things they shouldn’t! fantastic family dogs and very avid workers with a passion for crossing water to get their retrieves :)

Lagotto Romagnolo!! these babies are so damn cute 😭 they’re excellent hunting companions and family dogs, once again! and also great alternatives to doodles, their coats are a similar look to many that i’ve seen, if that’s what draws you to them! they’re so eager to please and handler-focused :)

Italian Spinone! if you want a labradoodle or any larger type of doodle, may i recommend one of these beauties instead? they are less expensive and neurotic. they are such a gorgeous breed, relatively hypoallergenic as far as dogs go, and brilliant family dogs! they also love to work! :)

Irish Setters!! both (Red and White and Red) absolute maniacs if they’re not worked regularly excellent companions, brilliant family dogs! very clingy and affectionate, but it is like having a life-long toddler :)

Gordon Setters!! the most underrated of the Setter breeds, for sure. they are such brilliant thinkers and problem solvers, and have brilliant prey drive if you’re looking for a shooting companion! i would say less neurotic than Irish Setters, but still full of energy :)

German Wirehaired Pointer’s have always been on my list! fantastic dogs to fulfil and so full of love! mostly aloof with strangers, but want to live inside of their caregiver’s skin hehe as you can see the prey drive is off the charts though, you have been warned :)

English Setters!! some of the only English creatures i want in my house :P they’re such hard working dogs, and they love a good snuggle on the sofa after working! brilliant family pets for people that are prepared to work them regularly :)

from Herders to Gundogs (my favourite breed group!!) Brittanys are such wonderful dogs, and they have an excellent work ethic! not many ethical breeders of them in the UK unfortunately, but they make excellent working and family dogs! brilliant with children and other dogs, in general :)

speaking of the Corgi… i love both breeds, but i’m more drawn to Cardigans (on the right), than Pembrokes, because of the size (and because until, 5 years ago, they were generally better bred than Pembrokes) they’re not for the weak, and they’re still a herding breed, but they’re so brilliant :)

a Lancashire Heeler! these dogs are so bladdy underrated! if you want a sweet, snuggly baby, that also has excellent work drive, these are the dogs for you! an early cross between the Welsh Corgi and the Manchester Terrier, they’re absolutely neurotic :) unfortunately, an endangered breed though :(

a German Shepherd! so so intelligent, affectionate and kind babies! i know they’re prone to heart issues and the big C, but they’re just such loyal and brilliant companions. i’ve been truly influenced by those that have them, to consider adopting/having one from a breeder!

a rough/smooth collie! i’m very ambivalent about coat type with this breed because i’m a dog groomer hehe first of all, THE SNOOT second of all, these dogs have insane prey drive and are very good with people. third of all, breed fulfillment with them would be an absolute joy!

first up, Anatolian Shepherd! would definitely want to have a LOT of land and some livestock, but Anatolian’s are the number one protection dogs imo! so fiercely loyal, and very aloof with strangers. my kind of dog!
