The longlist for the 2026 Roderick Award is out! Probably the most eclectic literary prize in Australia and worth $50,000!

Another piece of writing from yours truly. Might be the weirdest thing I've written? This is what happens when you agree to write about a US work of criticism for a publication about Australian writing! openjournals.library.sydney.edu.au/JASAL/articl...

An actually good higher education piece in the AFR. VCs, toadies, and "a culture of fear." I must say though, that a culture of fear requires a culture of cowardice in my experience www.afr.com/work-and-car...

I'm exhausted and drained, but what a wonderful few days at AMSN 2024 was! Michelle Cahill discussing and reading from her novel, Daisy and Woolf, was such a grand way to finish, too. Congratulations and thanks to @utasenglish.bsky.social and @drmilthorpe.bsky.social and team for hosting!

When they tell you the lecture is dead it's because they have their heads in the sand or have something to gain

I really want to fight for the humanities but we need to see something worth fighting for from academic managers who are drawing some pretty egregious salaries and delivering an education worse than what they received. Change begins begins with recognition that universities serve the community
