Small snippet of my (currently) 4k+ NOLA #danlou fic. Slowly but surely.

Their already slow pace slows a bit more, and that's when Daniel hears it. The music hits Daniel's ears before they're even at the building, but judging by the sound he has a good feeling this is where Louis has been leading them.
Through the old thin glass in the blue-framed doors and windows, Daniel catches glimpses of what awaits them as they pass by. There is very obviously a live band, packed tables, and, once they get to the front door, Daniel can see through the crowd that the middle of the restaurant is a dance floor.
The entryway is a mess of people and the chokepoint pushes Louis and Daniel closer together. The shorter man is in front of Daniel now, and he nudges Louis' shoulder with his own to get his attention, leaning down to speak into his ear and over the ruckus. "I don't dance on the first date."
Louis looks up over his shoulder, his eyes crinkling with a smile and not shying away from Daniel's own. "Not even if I pay for dinner?"
"Fuck off."
There's a jab to Daniel's stomach that's more playful than punitive. He blames the flutter in his chest on the bass in the music.
