We have arrived at the end of the Tragically Hip Best Song Bracket. Based on your votes the winner is: Nautical Disaster. The Day For Night single defeated Ahead By A Century 89-81.

Don’t forget to vote in the final! It’s a true toss up of a match.

It's interesting that two very important "all-time" records -- most weeks at #1 on the BB Hot 100 and highest-grossing movie ever (Spider-Man: BND) -- were broken within weeks, but neither generated much discussion, was culturally interesting, or felt like a significant event. #music #movies

Such a great final and an appropriately tough choice! YHF has some great tracks, but also a few lulls and that makes a difference at this level! White Blood Cells is more consistent and more fun too. So ... WBC for the win!

I voted against both of these in the semis, but The Strokes put out a decent rocker, so I'll give it my vote. I just never vibed with Björk.

I think these are two of the better rock albums of the year. However, White Blood Cells is more exciting and energetic and has much better songwriting craft.

I've stayed away from the debate so far today! But I'm voting for Wilco here. YHF is a consistently good and interesting album with a lot of catchy songs.

I'll be voting for White Blood Cells, which is amongst the best rock albums of the decade. But no shade on Missy, who also made a top-notch record. I would have voted for her over the Strokes!

I'm a little late to the show today, but I think The Strokes are the clear choice here. It's one of the records that continues to define 2001. But DBT were a pleasant surprise. They're probably the biggest overachievers of the tournament!

Smashing that button hard for Daft Punk. It's one of the touchstone EDM albums of all time ... great for both the club and for listening to at home!

We've now reached the round of 16 in the Tragically Hip Best Song Bracket, so it's a great time to jump in. C'mon, you know all these songs!

YHF is one of the best albums in the tournament and remains a pleasure to listen to 25 years later.

I thought about this one for a long time and finally decided to vote for Missy to help keep some hip-hop and R&B alive into the next round. (Tbh, I kind of fell away from Radiohead after OK Computer anyway.)

Extremely easy vote for White Blood Cells (one of the best albums of the year) here, although I don't dislike the Kylie album.

051

Jeff @noisysun.bsky.social · 03/09/2026

Hmmm. Both albums are okay, but neither is great. Don't have strong feelings here. I guess Southern Rock Opera is more cohesive and coherent and has more highlights, so that's how I'll vote.

Although Aaliyah is a talented singer and has some good songs, Is This It is the stronger and more consistent album here.

Fugazi is more-than-decent post-hardcore, while Björk continues to be very much "not my thing".

Daft Punk in a landslide here. Not a second of hesitation!

Jeff @noisysun.bsky.social · 28/08/2026

I'm voting for the Spoon album, which has been a really pleasant surprise. OTOH, I've always found the Welch record pretty sleepy. It hasn't grown on me at all!

I'm slowly easing into reading Bluesky again on a low-key basis. How y'all doin'? I've enjoyed being more offline, so will probably shift my balance going forward. Still no new music challenges planned for a while.

I'll get back to adding reviews for the final few rounds after a bit of a break. I like both of these bands, but this is one of Wilco's best discs while I feel Low has done better. So, advantage Wilco.

FYI: I'll be a little scarce around Bluesky for the next couple of months as I take a mini-break. I'll probably take an even longer break from music challenges and just send in my #Twen2y526 slate as a list. Got too much on my "To Do" list right now. Have a good summer/autumn everyone! 😎
