Ok, I checked that. REAPER simply replaces the `<` and `>` characters with `_`. Same when rendering tracks.

These are just track names. REAPER substitutes sequences of ordinary `-, =, <, >` characters, as shown in the video. I couldn't find anything about it in the documentation.

The trick of stealing volume with another sample number can be seen in practice here: at pattern POS 12 on track 4 and pattern POS 64 on track 2. It applies a different volume when the command column is already occupied by another command. youtu.be/VQgPRCzvEhs
