My new article, where I analyze the Metrical Dindshenchas and the Great Oak of Éo Mugna as a possible Celtic Irish influence on Tolkien's Treebeard, is now available. Link: noeliaramos96.substack.com/p/the-metric... #Tolkien #LOTR #Fantasy #Literature

The “Celtic‑thing” problem in #Tolkien legendarium comes mainly from the limited documentary evidence in his Celtic Library section. Much relevant material is not cited, so Celtic elements in his work are treated as analogies rather than as clearly documented sources.

Tracing a narrative arc alongside the Celtic Irish Lebor Gábala Érenn and its deviations, the First and Second Battles of Moytura, with Tolkien's The Silmarillion and The Lord of the Rings. Quite demanding but rewarding 💪🏼 #LOTR #Tolkien #PhD #Literature

People assume that Tolkien read all three redactions of the Lebor Gabála Érenn when modelling his Elves. This is not accurate. The issue is far more complex than that. That is precisely my aim: reconstructing a timeline to determine which materials Tolkien used. #Tolkien #LOTR #PhD

Whether Goblin Feet can be read as a bridge from Victorian fairy toward a more “Celtic” mode, Princess Ní is the poem that truly reveals the shift. Details like “Elf‑fine hair,” “most slender is she,” and Ní, evokes a sidhe‑like fairy conception. #Tolkien #LOTR #Literature

#Tolkien Wood‑sunshine and Goblin Feet mark his shift from Victorian whimsy to a more Celtic fairy. He blends tiny fairies with darker, otherworldly tones. This mix shows him leaving sentimental fairy behind and seeking deeper mythic sources for a more serious imaginative world.

On July 8-9th, #Tolkien wrote “The Shores of Faery”, one of his earliest poetic explorations of the fairy realm. Together with “Wood-Sunshine” (1910), it marks his earliest move toward a more pagan conception of Faërie—one he would later develop more fully in On Fairy-Stories. #LOTR #PhD

It’s #CameraDay! 📸 Cameras come in all shapes and sizes, and we couldn’t let the day pass without mentioning our own. Opened in 1749, the Radcliffe Camera is one of Oxford’s most photographed and iconic buildings. Camera (n.) from the Latin 'camera' meaning 'room', usually with a vaulted ceiling.
