Noctoc @noctoc.bsky.social · 19/07/2026There is always a sort of diminishing returns on energy as a drawing goes down the pipeline. Sketch to Inks is a really major energy loss. The way I found to mitigate it is simply to play more loosely with the inks themselves. If you draw in a rigid manner it's gonna reflect onto the drawing. 030
Noctoc @noctoc.bsky.social · 18/07/2026The accent color on the B&W cleanups is mostly utilitarian. I needed a good way to make the sexy bits pop, hence the red blush. Doesn't really require exercising much of the colorist side of my brain. I think I'm still well short of where I was back in 2022-23 on the coloring department. 010
Noctoc @noctoc.bsky.social · 18/07/2026A lot of comms on the more complex side end up with half a dozen perfectly usable drafts, but that don't get chosen for one reason or another. Drawing the same pose from different angles is a nice way to train your sense of tridimensionality. 020

His idea was really straight forward and I had a clear mental image of where to go. Ghally's ate like 2-3 hours. initial shot idea was very short on refs, later simplified into the flatter comp, lots of attempts. 030

The ideal is like 5 min per, but then some of them take upwards of 20 to sort out. Doesn't help that in the end only one is chosen leading to a lot of scrapped time, heh. 160

Tian's was more about keeping lineart to a minimum and just letting the colors do the work. End result is soft yet quite bold. 591070
