The demo for FriendOS is out! This game is being developed by many of the same developers that gave us Corporate Clash's 1.3 Hires & Heroes update. store.steampowered.com/app/4531070/...

I will always be thankful the TTO devs recognised how bad the original fishing minigame was, and completely reworked it.

Can't definitively prove it, but the blog post they put up feels very much AI generated too 🤨

It'd obviously never happen, but LORD imagine a Doodle as a Fortnite companion.

So, this is a real Toontask on TTR's test server right now. Are they encouraging people to deliberately set off puzzles for this? Genuinely so confused lol

Some more extended, rambly thoughts I had. Wishing the best to the team, I really respect their dedication to this, and seeing them get back on track after the messy past year and a half is great, I just hope they stick the landing.

Without Toontown, I'm sure other games like Club Penguin could've still existed, but they'd be in a very different form to what we know today. The team behind Wizard101 have openly admitted to being heavily inspired by the game as just one example.

Toontown was a very ambitious project for the time it was made. No other big-budget MMOs that kids could play along with their parents really existed then. The Disney VR Studio had to pitch the game as an "online theme park" just to get it approved by the higher ups.

Features such as Speedchat were originally created for TTO, and became staples in family friendly virtual worlds and MMOs. Look at most of these 2000s games, and you'll find influence from Toontown all over the place.

Something I honestly don't think Toontown gets enough credit for is its impact on MMO games as a whole. It came out over a year before World of Warcraft changed the scene, and was one of the first games in the genre directed towards a family audience.

For those unaware, last year a DLC released for Goat Simulator 3 which seems to reference Toontown Online! Note the proportions on the toon characters which seem to strongly resemble the models from TTO.
