working on drafting my data/stats/results/etc portion of my paper and i'll take "sentences i was not expecting to have to write when i designed this project" for 400
Footnote that reads: On April 9, 2026, the @DHSgov account posted video including barely-censored CCTV footage of a man beating a woman to death with a hammer. While it may have met my inclusion criteria (edited video, text used in the video, the highest amount of public interactions within the March 20, 2026 to April 20, 2026 period at almost 85,000), I excluded it because I did not feel comfortable reviewing it more than once and am not sure as a researcher how to treat what is essentially government-promoted snuff footage without bias.

Screenshot of a NYT article from Sept 28th, 2025 titled "Ta-Nehisi Coates on Bridging Gaps vs. Drawing Lines" in Ezra Klein's opinion podcast column. The paywall that blocked me from reading the entire article states "Support independent journalism with a subscription. Already a subscriber? Log in."

reading Glenn Feldman's "The Disfranchisement Myth" for a class paper i'm working on, and found a quote that hits pretty hard in the current environment:
A quote from the previously mentioned book that reads: “As the Democrats worked out the political future of Alabama, they were self-consciously aware that they were engaged in a deadly serious enterprise, a project that would define and delimit politics for generations to come. They went about their work with the solemn realization that they were fashioning, not only a constitution that the state would live with for decades, but a whole way of doing politics. They were sanctifying the *politics of emotion* in Alabama, a politics based on the emotional appeals of race and Reconstruction to make sufficient numbers of the White majority forget their economic differences, It was a politics that salved wounded economic pride, sedated class tensions, and soothed the psyches of ordinary folks, who wanted, somehow, to feel superior to other people.” [pg. 44] The final two sentences are highlighted.

here’s the creature
Melissa, a tabby cat, sitting like a human (folded in half, paws in her lap). She’s staring at the camera like she’s judging you.

happy caturday to my favourite septic shock survivor
a close up image of Melissa, a tabby cat, asleep on OP’s chest. A semi-fisheye style image of melissa, a tabby cat, from below. She looks shocked and/or concerned. Her neck and her side are shaved from a previous medical procedure An image of Melissa, a tabby cat, resting her chin on OP’s hand, eyes half closed. OP is making an “I love you” ASL sign with his fingersMelissa, a tabby cat, with her eyes closed as she gets under her chin scratched

From a couple weeks ago, been too busy for cat pictures lately which is very sad
a small tabby cat (named melissa!) crouched in a corner of a room near a door, almost a loaf but not quite due to her tail sticking out and two visible paws. Her ears are perked up, her eyes are somewhat dilated, and her whiskers are pointed down. There’s a cat toy spring next to her

www.whitehouse.gov/presidential...
An executive order from whitehouse.gov. it reads:
PROTECTING CHILDREN FROM CHEMICAL AND SURGICAL MUTILATION

EXECUTIVE ORDER

January 28, 2025

By the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, it is hereby ordered:

Section 1. Policy and Purpose. Across the country today, medical professionals are maiming and sterilizing a growing number of impressionable children under the radical and false claim that adults can change a child’s sex through a series of irreversible medical interventions. This dangerous trend will be a stain on our Nation’s history, and it must end.

That was fast
The front page of whitehouse.gov. It features a photo of Donald Trump pointing at the camera from a 3/4 angle with the words “America is Back” in all caps superimposed over him.

“Lobbyists who hadn’t taken the possibility seriously” I think one thing that we learned from the previous Trump administration is that we have to treat everything he says he’s going to do seriously, no matter how ridiculous.
Quote from the quote-skeeted Politico article that reads: “That could pose a major threat to a broad swath of American industry's bottom line.
Lobbyists who hadn't taken the possibility seriously say their phones are blowing up over Trump's decision, and industry leaders are trying to quickly leverage any connections to Kennedy to mitigate the risk he could pose. More than a dozen who work for companies in RFK's crosshairs said they're telling clients to keep their cool. Their attitude is indicative of the confusion gripping Washington's lobbying corridor, K Street, since Trump's election earlier this month.”

From Politico. Again, that 14% is probably close to true, but what is categorized as a climate/environmental bill is disingenuous
Text from a Politico article that reads: "Zeldin was a member of the bipartisan Climate Solutions Caucus and Conservative Climate Caucus, as well as the bipartisan PFAS Task Force — though he received only a a 14 percent lifetime score from the League of Conservation Voters, a left-leaning group that ranks members on their environmental voting records."
