If you see this, post a vampire that isn’t Dracula.

Sometimes opening acts are so brilliant. I hate Oasis but they were incredible live (U2). Wet Leg made me an instant fan (Florence & The Machine.) Mannequin Pussy (Florence, again) was an incredible communal experience. Other times…

The advantages of having The Greek up the hill from you is it’s just a (very sweaty) walk up the hill when your favorite Swedish Pop Star in on tour.

And now, months later, I’ve finally wrapped @mollycrabapple.bsky.social’s tremendous Here Where We Live Is Our Country. Glimpses of worlds we could have had and an unflinching look at the horrors that made the world that is. I leave it hopeful that we can wake up from the nightmare of history.

I knew that Japanese tourism to see Shohei Ohtani play at Dodger Stadium was a thing. I did not realize that it was a “print the Guisados‘ menus in Japanese for game night“ level thing.

It’s part of their “Varsity” line, making reference to Lucas’ USC alumni status and the museum’s proximity to USC. If I had more cash I would have picked this or the sweatshirt up. I left with the Taschen book and a tote bag I probably shouldn’t have gotten. But what I really wanted was this:
A vase of Frank Frazetta’s Mothman (1980) painting.

Noah J. Nelson, Immersonaut Prime @noahjnelson.com · 06/09/2026
The name of the painting seems to be a bit of a mystery Online sources, including an article in GQ identify the work as “Poker Game.” This is what the Lucas Museum’s own postcard calls it. But the plaque at the museum, the digital guide, and the Taschen art book all call it “A Pat Hand.”

There’s a lot to live about the Lucas Museum, but I think my favorite bit is that not only did they put the original Dogs Playing Poker painting in a museum but they have a boatload of merch for it.

I know we like to rag on Threads over here — I mean, we should rag on Zuck products every chance we get — but the folks over there often get some banger replies going.

Maybe cuz they DIDNT GO?!

More context on the fire in L.A. via the L.A. Times by way of Threads user late.july: (No paywall on link at present.) www.latimes.com/business/sto...

The 500,000-square-foot commercial building at 1400 S. Los Palos St. houses 85 million pounds of frozen food "like a giant cooler," he said. The corrugated steel walls are filled with very dense foam that is burning slowly and off-gassing despite ongoing water drops from helicopters.

Moore cautioned people with lung issues or smoke sensitivity to avoid outdoor activities, but said crews have mitigated the hazardous-materials portion of the blaze and are now focused on the biohazard portion posed by spoiled food.

A shelter-in-place order for residents was lifted on Friday, but many across the region on social media reported thick smoke smells, haze and poor air quality in the San Gabriel Valley, Northeast Los Angeles, Glendale, Burbank, downtown Los Angeles and many
