the texture on the outside is so beautiful… well, same with the dots lining the lines in the middle!

that song makes me so happy, the delivery of it makes the feeling really clear and I also love the composition and all

maybe you know this part, but just in case: a pattern made by cellular automata rules (where cells become white or black based on their neighbors) and the red indicates cells that are rapidly alternating, I believe.

“to make sure you can’t escape” sounds ominous, haha

yeah!! once in a while I wonder why this kind of idea isn’t popular (yet)

it looks like they share a baseline (the slash goes lower) but since the font size is lower, it looks off

ah, I see! so something like LÖVE isn’t the most typical then either

wow yeah that looks cool… even outside of this game, leaning into glitches specifically for an abandoned town for example sounds like a really fun thing to do

But then somehow, when just playing the 1s like a tresillo, it sounds just as natural to me as a four on the floor

Reminder that we published an extensive interview with a former editor at The New York Times who laid out, in detail, how the paper's pushing of anti-trans bigotry was both very intentional and directed from the very top of the organization. The NYT plays a direct and major role in trans genocide:

A visual look I expect to see in the future and wouldn’t mind at all: referencing the output of early precursors of image gen. It looked so alien that it was never “useful” for grifters and companies, so many of the current issues don’t apply

modular typography is really neat and perhaps still under-explored… (I don’t see a connection to the dual grid idea in this particular example? that would imply shapes crossing cell boundaries at the centers)

Vaguely familiar because there’s hardware in my computer that puts something in win+R and runs it after every startup 😬 …it feels like malware, even if it apparently isn’t. (It’s to attempt installing the driver for a temperature display on the cpu cooler, which I never look at)

The data from these projects being used for *something* was already known info in some way, there might have been articles at the time. Just not with this specific use x_x …should have been viewed as inevitable, yeah.

I used to do this in a now obsolete way here and there (would make a component, place down two so the bounding box has the rotation center, calc the right angle to rotate copies by). Also, this looks nice!!

is this a counter example? It’s part of the promotion machine, it’s probably incapable of making something that sounds new, but the level of control does leave me wondering. magenta.withgoogle.com/mrt2#apps-pl...

devs at Google made various ML music experiments before the current genAI wave that offered different forms of control. there was the nvidia thing where you paint landscapes. it’s always perpetual prototypes, and they care about it now even less, yeah

The German version of these terms is really something (basically slurs)
000
noa hoffmann @no4.bsky.social · 19/05/2026
maybe my point is this: I (now) fully reject LLMs, but I understand wanting to skip certain parts of programming. the heart and soul of it might be in a different place to different people.
000
noa hoffmann @no4.bsky.social · 19/05/2026
but it felt a little wrong, now IMO a dead end. over and over I see ppl seemingly interested in alternative forms of computing end up fully convinced that LLMs are the only path. at this point, I want to always choose the limited, slow, low-stakes, weird ways of making computers do stuff instead.
110
noa hoffmann @no4.bsky.social · 19/05/2026
rejecting any form of gen AI for art and music was obvious to me. But for a while I was using LLMs for programming questions, for autocomplete, to skip some tedious parts. the projects I made this way still feel like my own, it was still about the process and not just the output.

I like making (game) design decisions through the medium of programming, because of the feedback loop (it’s real and interactive!) and I also enjoy the structural math-y internal stuff. sometimes doing both is too exhausting. do I like programming?
100
noa hoffmann @no4.bsky.social · 19/05/2026
on personal projects, I am most interested in the design decisions visible in the output (the tool or game) - I do enjoy programming as a craft, the feeling of typing each character, spending really long looking for a small bug, etc, but it felt like two separate hobbies almost

I had to disable those again and again, often tried translated subtitles instead, which takes multiple clicks and then doesn’t even show anything or work it’s frustrating to see where their priorities are…

songs would have gotten old so I also turned it off and played other music… but yeah some of it stood out for being super pop in a way? too friendly? not sure how to put into words
000
noa hoffmann @no4.bsky.social · 26/04/2026
no, but that’s not the same. original problem assumes time to think, a danger that will safely be stopped based on the number of votes, and a lot of people that wouldn’t be able to make the choice (like babies).
000
noa hoffmann @no4.bsky.social · 25/04/2026
well do they choose randomly for people that don’t understand the question or can’t answer
000
noa hoffmann @no4.bsky.social · 25/04/2026
isn’t the “perfect game theory answer == red” just as much a fantasy scenario? idk, this whole thing just makes me sad for some reason and maybe I should stop thinking about it.
140
noa hoffmann @no4.bsky.social · 25/04/2026
I just assumed everyone means everyone. “just” and “everyone” don’t really go together in reality, the results would be inevitably varied, in some cases it’s more like a random choice. or is this a thought experiment where everyone fully understands the scenario? then red, sure
020
noa hoffmann @no4.bsky.social · 25/04/2026
voting red just makes it less likely that blue gets over half the votes, yeah. which is the only way to prevent a lot of people from dying, assuming this isn’t just a scenario where everyone makes the rational game theory choice
140
noa hoffmann @no4.bsky.social · 25/04/2026
everyone choosing the same thing never happens in any kind of vote for anything, no? so red kills a lot of players. are babies also choosing? etc
150
noa hoffmann @no4.bsky.social · 25/04/2026
it’s extremely unlikely that 100% of people make the same choice, so red is still the “a bunch of people die” choice
