My new post is about Paul Celan and Ingeborg Bachmann, their affair in Köln and the story that gave us the poem "Köln, am Hof". Love and historical trauma are entangled in Celan’s poetry bc of Bachmann and the influence of Husserl, Heidegger and Adorno. nathaliadeavila.substack.com/p/in-memory-...

In memory of Paul Celan, in memory of Cologne
How a secret love affair in Cologne birthed the German expression Herzzeit, which names a poetic dimension where memory, historical trauma and love have to co-exist.

The fact that a superficial approach as radical enactivism wants to tackle psychiatry is already strange. But arguing that the various forms of sense-making should be eliminated from our models is the greatest disservice I have ever seen in various levels, even ethical ones.

Nazi psyche is so puzzling. Besides the fetishization of fertility when they don't like women at all, I can't follow the reasoning behind bitching about the Bauhaus in favor of a “traditional German” aesthetic, since that often leads to very ugly things.

The discrepancy between what is actually being presented to him (the message from the university) vs. the embellished post with “allowing me to stay” when an investigation is ongoing and no one wants to see his face. Not impressive interpretation skills for a philosopher.

Sharing this helpful article "Identifying White Mediocrity and Know-Your-Place Aggression: A Form of Self-Care" from my wonderful BU colleague Koritha Mitchell (with her links to additional resources below): muse.jhu.edu/article/715439
This article offers a primer on identifying what the author calls "know-your-place aggression" as well as the violence of white mediocrity being treated as merit. The author argues that gaining clarity about these hostile tendencies is a form of self-
care. Examples include experiences with racism, (hetero)sexism, trans antagonism, ableism, and Islamophobia. Understanding know-your-place aggression and white mediocrity can prevent marginalized communities from wasting energy by worrying about the opinions of people who use objective standards to judge everyone but themselves. The author encourages this form of self-care because she believes it can empower
members of marginalized groups to save their energy for what matters most, the quality of their lives and their contributions to research.

I think my 3 lovely visual experiences watching The Odyssey (Circe, the Underworld, Calypso’s island) vs. the classicists’ collective hatred of it come down to this: they went in expecting fidelity to the book, while I went in already happy that someone in Hollywood knows how to spell “Odyssey.”

Found this text by Camille Goemans from 1924 about Proust. It basically says his work is reduced o to psychology or memory theory, while the novel is neither offering explanations memory, nor asking us simply to relive the past. It is inventing a new mode of thought and writing.
