Released my first game today. Came home to a cake with The Blessed Fool logo, made by my wife. Should ship games more often. #pixelart #gamedev #gaming #indiegame

My wife played The Blessed Fool yesterday. When she finished, she said only one thing: "It felt like lancing an abscess." In a good way. The game is out now on Steam. I hope this story stays with you🎉 store.steampowered.com/app/3396560?... #indiegame #pixelart #pointandclick #horrorgame

Development started in June 2024. I quickly found an artist, and we drew 70% of the sprites in six months, but in February 2025 the main artist I worked with on Plowing came back. We had to redraw everything. Look at the attached screenshots — the question "why" should disappear right away.

One week left until The Blessed Fool is released. I'm so glad I finally finished this project — it took me 2 years. Two feelings are boiling inside me: joy and shame. Below is a short story of how these two years went, and why shame outweighs joy in me🧵 #pixelart #gamedev #gaming #indiegame

Thank you to everyone who played The Blessed Fool demo during Steam Next Fest🎉 Your feedback, bug reports, and comments helped a lot. I’ve already fixed several reported issues and will keep improving the game before release. The Blessed Fool releases September 30, 2026. #pixelart #indiegame

Over the past two weeks, I’ve been polishing the demo for my main game while also continuing work on my card game. And today, my project officially passed Steam moderation — which means I’m now confirmed to take part in the June 2026 Steam Next Fest🎉 #gamedev #GodotEngine #gaming #indiegame

The second is a defeat animation. When you lose, the cards simply collapse and fall flat. To me, both animations are still missing something — sound. I tried several options, but none of them felt right🔽

The first one is a victory animation. I’m still experimenting with different parameters — the number of cards flying out, their speed, and so on. The toughest decision so far is the direction: should the cards fly upward or downward?🔽 #gamedev #2D #GodotEngine #GameDesign

This time, I built an interesting location that required creating a new state for the main character. This is just a test animation🔽

This week, I returned to working on my game Aces Up Magic, as my artist is creating new assets. What remains now is to refine the sound design and polish the UI elements. #SaturdayDevlog #gamedev #2D #GodotEngine #gaming #GameDesign #indiegame

But, of course, there’s always a catch. I’ve spent three days trying to get proper shadows working in one location. The issue is that I have pre-rendered shadows for NPCs, but that approach doesn’t work for the main character since they’re constantly moving🔽

The composer delivered the soundtrack for the final locations—and for the first time in my life, I didn’t have to tweak anything. It turned out flawlessly, almost suspiciously perfect🔽

This week I created three more locations. I’ve noticed that the main difficulty in each one is the unique NPCs. Even if it’s just a few lines of code, each of them has its own quirk that forces me to create child classes. That probably means I didn’t design the base class well enough🔽

Hello, Saturday. And with it — our regular segment: #SaturdayDevlog This week I’ve almost finished working on the pause menu. I added language switching, volume control, and screen mode settings🔽 #pixel #pixelartist #pixelart #gamedev #2D #GodotEngine #gaming #GameDesign #indiegame #pointandclick

My main discovery this week was truly understanding the beauty of inheritance and polymorphism. At first, I wrote one big script hoping it would work for all NPCs. But I quickly realized that was a mistake — in my game almost every NPC has its own unique behavior🔽

So I decided to switch to a vector font. It scales cleanly at any size and, honestly, fits my setting better. Curious to hear your thoughts on using vector fonts in pixel art games. See you next Saturday.

In the screenshot the size is 5px, and you can clearly see the distortion. The issue is that my viewport is very small. If I use an even smaller pixel font, readability suffers🔽

I didn’t get much done this week. I spent a lot of time taking my child to hospitals and celebrating my wife’s birthday. Still, I fixed around ten bugs and began working on the second location🔽

Saturday returns! I take a moment to account for the week’s small but stubborn work. #SaturdayDevlog The next cutscene now stands close to completion. Only a few frailties remain — minor bugs and sprites awaiting their proper form. #pixelart #gamedev #2D #GodotEngine #gaming #indiegame

The Cutscene System automatically triggers cutscenes when specific game conditions are met — such as the player’s position in a location, the number of items in the inventory, and other gameplay states. Next week, I hope to finish assembling three levels.

The Event System connects all elements of the game world. For example, when the player picks up an item, an NPC can change their animation in response.

I’ve also almost finished the game’s main menu. There’s only one strange issue left — fonts. The default font works perfectly, but as soon as I add any custom font, it becomes distorted and falls apart. I spent quite a while trying to find a solution, but haven’t succeeded yet.

I watched Sergei Parajanov’s "Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors" for the first time and am utterly stunned, above all by how deeply he delved into Ukrainian folklore. Every frame radiates his effort to grasp the essence of the Ukrainian people, weaving a magnificent synergy between visuals and music.

Thank you! Partly, yes, I was inspired by Dostoevsky and all of Russian literature and cinema. But in this case, I was more inspired by Andrei Platonov—almost every one of his works.

My favorite way to relax is a walk. I cross the whole city to reach what I believe is “the best place on earth.” I can sit there for hours, listening to music, sorting out my thoughts, and simply enjoying life. Everyone should have a place where they can feel at one with nature.
This is a very old abandoned fountain. The photo was taken in September 2024. The photo was taken in September 2024. Lone fishermanA magical forest. I always have the feeling that if you go in there, you will find yourself in a fairyland.

I’m amazed at how David Lynch conveyed human loneliness in S3E13. The final shot—Ed standing alone at his gas station—is pure genius. Such simple imagery, yet so powerful. In that moment, I felt completely connected to him. #davidlynch #twinpeaks #movie

If we talk about Russian culture, the first thing I would recommend is, of course, all the films of Alexei German and Tarkovsky. If you are an artist, most likely you know such an artist as Nikolai Ge. He is similar in atmosphere to Hermann, in my opinion.

I was once deeply struck by Alexei German’s film “Khrustalyov, My Car!”. Its chaotic, unconventional hyperrealism and, most importantly, its raw, unfiltered truth left a lasting impression on me. The film conveys a terrible, horrifying, and unbearable truth that lingers in your mind.
