the needs of the few

ShowMeAHero

Summary:

To Eva, Court asks, “Is there anything else you wanted to tell us?”

Eva meets him head-on. “Ryland was a good man. He will be in good company on the Hail Mary.” There’s an impossible weight to her voice when she adds, “Thank you for him. You should be proud.”

Colt tightens his grip on Holly’s hand, pushes his face into her shoulder. He has no idea what to say to that; it doesn’t sound like anybody does, the silence ringing around them as the words linger so heavily, he thinks he could choke.

or: colt and the rest of ryland's family come together, mourn ryland, and meet with eva stratt to hear about ryland's mission on the hail mary and his last days on earth.

step out of the sun

ShowMeAHero

Summary:

“What’s he saying?” Holland asks in the distance.

“He said to turn the TV on,” Jackson tells him, voice a little further, holding the phone away from himself. He sounds close again when he asks Colt, “Why?”

“What channel?” Holland asks.

“What chan—” Jackson starts to relay, before he cuts himself off. “What? Holland, what—”

Colt’s Dad says something indistinguishable, too far away for him to hear. Moments of silence follow where Colt knows they’re watching the same thing he is, seeing his brother’s face— their son’s face— Ryland’s face framed on the television, just above the words Hail Mary, and save our sun, and suicide mission.

or: ryland has been missing for a couple of weeks when colt sees the hail mary launch on tv. the first thing he thinks to do is call his family.

and then you put your arms around me

ShowMeAHero

Summary:

The next picture in the stack was clearly taken immediately after the previous photograph; Colt and Ryland are still pressed to each other’s sides, only now, Holly’s smushed in beside them, the camera extended in one of her arms as she takes a closer-up picture of all three of them grinning away. “Shit. This one’s cute.”

Holland starts laughing again, but he doesn’t have the time to actively tease him before he’s tilting his head up and seeing the photograph for himself. Instead of getting smart with Jackson, he just rolls up a little closer for a better vantage point on the picture. His whole face crinkles up with a smile when he finally sees.

It’s slightly out of focus, a bit blurry, but Jackson thinks it’s his favorite photo yet.

or: jackson and holland wind down together after ryland and colt's ninth birthday party.

Summary:

None of this could have happened if he stayed on Earth. He wouldn’t have them— he wouldn’t have any of this.

Grace gets more comfortable in his rocking chair, watching his family. From the pile of them, Rocky rumbles a little, tilting in Grace’s direction.

“Your heart is going faster,” Rocky comments sleepily, voice all low tones.
“I’m just happy,” Grace tells him. “Everything turned out okay.”

day 40!! an elephant for my Gramma. I didn't even think until right after I finished this that she might not have even liked this. she used to tell me my tattoos were unladylike because tattoos are for sailors and criminals.

010

cunt dracula @nmello.bsky.social · 19/06/2026

day 38!! practicing a more simple rocky design today!! not my best work in the world but i am pretty proud of it right now, especially the line pulls while my hands were pretty shaky again today.

010

cunt dracula @nmello.bsky.social · 17/06/2026

day 37!! a quick design i pulled together based on something james ortiz said in a cameo i got 🫧 still working in packing the ink in but i like this one!!

020

cunt dracula @nmello.bsky.social · 14/06/2026

day 36!! trying a thinner line in comparison to my thicker lines from the last one. i think i prefer the bold and might try this design again sometime with a thicker bolder line!!

010

cunt dracula @nmello.bsky.social · 14/06/2026

day 35!! went back to the outline and worked on filling it in. bold thicker lines today for practice!

010

cunt dracula @nmello.bsky.social · 09/06/2026

so i decided to just do the outlines today, and hopefully tomorrow i can clean up these lines a bit and do some filling in. but i still made something today and i'm proud of this!!

000

cunt dracula @nmello.bsky.social · 09/06/2026

day 34!! definitely still super shaky today, as you can probably tell by the fucked-up eye, the shaky weak lines, and the fact that i smeared the stencil ink fricking everywhere IMMEDIATELY!!
