Protest rights are human rights. January 26 is a day of mourning and a reminder of the ongoing impacts of colonisation. In solidarity with First Peoples, on January 26 our office will stay open, and many of us will attend marches and cultural events across the nation.

The fatal shooting of a 49-year-old man by NSW Police is a tragic reminder of the urgent need to reform police responses to mental health crises. Our thoughts are with his loved ones during this difficult time. Our systems must prioritise care over force now to stop any more lives being lost.
