Zdeněk Koubek was a Czech track athlete who fought for his right to run. He travelled the globe and performed on stage with the likes of Josephine Baker. Post retirement he turned to rugby union. He was also happened to be a trans man.

Zdeněk Koubek
Zdeněk Koubek was born on the 13th December 1913. He was raised in a working class family with his seven siblings in Brno, Czechia (then Austria-Hungary), he was assigned female at birth. At the age of 13 he was working in a haberdashery when a local medical student asked his colleague to attend a track and field meet. Koubek tagged along and was mesmerised by the races. He began training with a small women’s athletics club before gaining the attention of a university programme. In 1932, aged 18, he came second in the 800m and high jump at the National Championships.

End of the RWC2005 brings an end to season 2. All over much to fast Such an amazing experience. I was very fortunate to be able to make it to 9 games to see 8 teams in 5 venues. Although looking at the bank balance I'll have to be a hermit till the W6N 2026! Worth it for an experience of a lifetime.
