Compassion in a broader sense would not mean to "feel sorry", but to feel for others. To enjoy their achievements + happiness. To wish them well + stop the need to destroy those who are superior (by nature) or just better off. The need to look down on someone more miserable. 4/

The mother was standing besides the grave quietly, tall and stunning as always. But in between her body shook violently from her sobs while seeing the tiny coffin was heartbreaking enough. But russians are able to do keep doing this intentionally to people just for "grandeur" 2/

The appeasement policies did not save the British Empire. At the contrary, they enabled World War II which ended the British Empire while sacrificing millions of lives. The USSR did take over central Asia from Britain - AND Eastern Europe. The US is going down the same path.🧵

Poland saved itself that time, pushing the Red Army very much to the East. The resulting peace of Riga in 1921 which resulted from this failed to secure the independence of Ukraine, though, which would mostly fall to the USSR. 14/

When Soviet troops stood in front of Warsaw in August 1920, British PM Lloyd George pressured Poland to accept the Soviet conditions (including Polish disarmament and Sovietization). Meanwhile, he officially threatened the USSR with an intervention - which never happened. 10/

British envoy D'Abernon declared Poland too corrupt to build a functioning state. The aforementioned Hankey said Polish general and politician was "a friend of Lenin" which was utterly absurd. Most people in the British administration did everything to discredit Poland. 9/

Still, the UK insisted on a peace plan drafted - between the UK and the USSR. France resisted the idea of feeding Poland to the USSR and was kept out. British minister Hankey stated "the continuos existance of Poland (...) is very problematical (..) we should pull out" 8/

The USSR was not even going to accept that offer - like today. The USSR demanded the dissolution of the Polish army and a Polish "civil defense" which was to be a revolutionary force. The UK even intercepted internal USSR messages indicating the intention to not stop in Poland.7/

So, although russia had capitulated to Germany, Lloyd George wanted to give it even more territory. Poland was not willing to play along. Therefore Lloyd George - and many around him - attacked what he called "Polish imperialism", always blaming Poland and never the USSR. 6/

To make the USSR happy, UK prime minister Lloyd George was not only willing to block any Polish advance East of the Bug river, but also was willing to cede Galicia (the Lviv region) which had not even been russian before 1914, to the Soviet Union. 5/
