Some of my 2026 peppers. Some are already fruiting lol. I grow plants to give away, and extra plants to harvest for the community fridge and pantry.
A shallow black plastic tray holds many young pepper plants. They're under lights in my basement, so the light is harsh, very bright. Leaves deep green. Some buds exist, very young.

Max has made a zine <3
Small zine open to two pages.

Page with a starry landscape: There are hundreds of billions of stars in the Milky Way but only two genders? Why does my gender matter so much to you?

Page with cell images: There are more cells in the human body than there are stars in the Milky Way, but only one way to express each gender? Why does how I express my gender matter so much to you?

Wilson as a sad hamburger.
My dog Wilson with an inflatable collar ring that looks like he stuck his head through a giant sesame bun. White fur, rainbow socks. We have new meds, but arthritis had him licking his legs and I'd like them to heal.

The experiments. A bunch of pepper cuttings, some basil and parsley, a tomato. Varying levels of success.
9 plants in mason jars, some with sweaters or foil covering the jar. 6 are pepper plants and two are basil. One cherry tomato cutting.

A lot of success and one tremendous failure tomato lol
4 plants in black boxes with blue overhead lights. Two tomatoes, one almost dead. One large brassica, 5 giant green onions.

I'm with the plants today. One of the tiny tim tomato plants has so many flowers on it. This was a frantic cutting from an outside plant about a month ago.
4 small green tomato plants in a white and gray box with lights above. Two have small yellow flowers.

Just petting the plants bc I'm in such a foul mood. This is the shelf of audacious hope and small trust in my skills.
10 plants in various hydroponic jars on a very brightly lit shelf inside. Many pepper plants, some basil, and a sungold tomato I couldn't say goodbye to. They are in varying shapes of health, but very green with some fruiting.

Possibly the last of this type of pepper grown outside this year. Orange Lesya, but I used them green all season. Not prolific, but one is all you need for flavor and moderate to medium spice dishes.
A green pepper in my hand, held over a wood bench. It is rounded on top, coming to a cute point on bottom.

I want a free grocery store, but until then I finally did this.
Two wood crates stacked on my curbside containing brown bags filled with tomatoes and peppers that I grew. Also a pokemon card I found.

Idk why they gave him this limp pitchfork and he's just crying about it.
Jordan Peterson is very red and with teary eyes in this photo so I drew on devil horns and mustache and pitchfork, but the pitchfork is small and limp.

#NotMyCat
A grey and white cat looking over a small half-barrel pond with plants. In the background are various green plants and some small pink geranium flowers. There is a sign that says "trespassers will be composted," but the cat looks comfortable and unafraid.

My tavern will be called The Spewing Turtle
Our container pond water pump is connected to a turtle statue. The water exits through its mouth into a container of water next to it. The turtle is placed on a bed of rocks and surrounded by tall grasses and some white and blue flowers.

Gotta show off the failures with an awful snap.
Too tall and skinny brassica seedling. Defining leggy. I think it's kale, but could be Chinese broccoli. Small white flowers atop a spindly skinny stem with a smattering of tiny leaves in a way too small block of soil .

Mine planted with spinach, lettuce, & pak choy. @shayllou.bsky.social is right, they're starting to bolt even in part shade. I do love this planter for greens in spring, but that pepper plan will work all summer.
3'x2' wooden planter box with 3 spinach, 2 pak choy, and 4 lettuce plants. All the shades of green, plus 2 burgundy red romaine.

Needed to go to/from Madison today and took the back roads. No regrets. It was dreary, but the green just jumps out!
A very hilly and roughed up blacktop road surrounded by bare trees with bright green strips of grass to either side. The sky is overcast grey and cloudy.

It was a good event, and I'm glad we went. Gratitude to the organizers.

My brassica flat. It's my 3rd year with them, so idk. Lol they look fairly happy.
A rectangular black plastic tray with roughly 40 plants in 18 pots. Deep green and all 3-5 inches high. All brassica family plants like broccoli, kale, and collards.

I have 47 pepper plants now, and will give away about half, which is a little more than I'd planned. Very pleased!
Close up of a rectangular black plastic tray holding 18 square 4 inch pots. Each pot has one pepper plant, except one. 19 smallish bright green pepper plants of 8 varieties. Mild jalapeno, Hungarian yellow wax, sweet banana, shishito, hot Thai, Serrano, poblano, and pepperoncini.

My first brassica cage. I had hoops last year, and they worked alright. They'll cover something else this year. My son did a lot of the building, which is so lovely. (It is his 21st bday this weekend, holy cow )
A wood cube that is roughly 4x4x4 , less on one side by about 5 inches. It sits in a raised wood garden bed, on top of the soil. It is covered with butterfly netting and poultry wire for squirrels. My garden is in the background, mostly shades of brown, and dried plant matter. Stray plastic pots.

Every year I try an app and wind up here.
My garden planning set-up. A square foot garden guide, my clipboard with graph paper and yellow pencil on top. My seed box is next to it. The graph paper has possible plans to expand my existing garden in front.

This is what I'm working with tonight. Got buy in from my son, so we're adding to the giving garden.
Seed packets displayed on the floor. Mache, tronchuda kale, dino kale, Georgia southern collards, green wave mustard, leek, calabrese sprouting broccoli, early golden acre cabbage. A mix of opened and new packets.

I've made five family dinners with veggies mostly provided by this thing since I started on 12/16 with *super* low expectations. I can see how people wind up with dedicated indoor growing spaces. Not sure how far I'll go in that direction. (Lol)
An overcrowded tabletop hydroponics unit with a large (for me) bok choy growing in it. Other plants are shaded by its deep green leaves, like spinach, chard, and other bok choy.

This is my first go at this type of system. I planted these 12/16! My intention was to have greens/lettuce in winter and summer and yeah, this works. I'm still learning about the spacing for this, so it's crowded, with some light damage on the romaine in the center.
In center of photo is a black hydroponics unit, basically a rectangular bucket with a lid and plant holes. It has a bright attached light over it. It's filled with 6 inch ish lettuce, bok choy, and spinach. Behind the system is a reflective surface. Surrounded by clutter like hydroponic storage bin (yellow), a replica old timey radio with a small solar panel, and some vegetable cuttings in water for regrowth.

It's dreary, so check out my sexy hydroponic chard.
Very close up picture of a Swiss Chard seedling. She has a robust green leaf, with delicate lighter green and pink-red stems. The plant is in part of a hydroponic system, so sitting in a green topped cup device, inside/atop a matte black plastic rectangular bucket with a top and holes. Other blurry green seedlings can be seen in the background.

Deeper freeze than usual for December, so sad times in the hoop greenhouse. These are surviving plants from summer, so we'll see if they make it.
Inside a plastic greenhouse, with two large pots in focus, both reacting to a deep freeze. One holds droopy parsley that has started to die back to yellow, the other with an unlabeled green, possibly collards or kale, also droopy. They have enough deep green color for me to be hopeful they survive. There is a yellow sunflower solar light in the middle of this pot.

Small pot with dead plant between these two large pots is dead lovage, a celery like plant.

I finished sewing up my damaged hoop house zipper 15 minutes before sundown, right before a temp drop. My hands are hurting, but I'm feeling pretty relieved. I chose fishing wire bc it's got to be able to withstand some pretty big winds.
Close up of my plastic hoop style greenhouse zipper. There's a needle threaded with fishing wire stuck into the zipper, so I could take a pic of my progress. The plastic sheeting is clear, with a white grid. The top half is sewn together, the bottom is open.

Rained on nasturtiums in my front yard. 50+ degrees today, 90ish miles northwest of Chicago.
Close up of green nasturtium leaves with some rain drops collected on them. The leaves are medium green and very round, with white streaking from the center. A single yellow/peach fluted bloom is bottom center.
