“Only one type of person has ever questioned my ADHD, and that’s adults who have spent their lives wrestling with very similar traits. They’ve worked very very hard to convince everyone that they’re normal” - @pennyred.bsky.social lauriepenny.substack.com/p/the-great-...

The Great ADHD Myth.

One of the favorite features I've ever written was about complicated grief and mourning culture for Bitch Magazine, with stunning accompanying art. I am so unspeakably delighted that we reprinted on @theflytrapmedia.com today.

Mourning Should Have No Expiration Date
The United States is a nation that avoids the subjects of death, dying, and grief as much as possible.

"Stag photographed with wire wrapped around antlers” by the incomparable Tolu Oloruntoba @tolu.ca for today’s Poetry Pause @canadianpoets.bsky.social
Stag photographed with wire wrapped around antlers
by Tolu Oloruntoba

Your modern crown of green fence
does make you larger than you were.
I too, would like to wear my confinement
as antlerpiece, to have discovered
the rutting of the green of forest and
the eternity of hydrocarbons, to be
thus followed by worshipful watchers
as I anoint and lift up the twisted child
that must inherit all earth. Eido. Lo. Ecce!

Note: Poem title is from Bullock, C. (2024, October 1I). Stag photographed with
wire wrapped around antlers. BBC News.

I miss the mid 2010s internet when I could post a complaint thread on how new purposebuilt rent in my city is 25% higher than private landlords renting condos and every building offers 2 months off instead of lowering $$ and housing policy wonks/economists would jump into the thread to explain why.

It’s v apt that a video on how Zygmunt Bauman’s book Liquid Modernity predicted the modern situationship that brought me back to text-based social media but here we go. Because where else can I gripe that actually Bauman predicted the modern situationship in his lesser known sequel Liquid Love?
