Midwives are the steady hands and compassionate hearts that guide families through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum — rooted in trust, respect, and cultural understanding. They don’t just provide health care; they build bridges to safer, more dignified experiences for everyone. #NMW2026

(6/6) Some will be unable to make the trip at all and will be forced to remain pregnant. This is unacceptable and inhumane. Policymakers must act quickly to make abortion care and related costs more affordable and accessible – no matter someone’s zip code, income, or insurance.

(5/6) If they succeed, telehealth will be restricted for many, and patients will be forced to travel, sometimes hundreds of miles, and to pay for child care, transportation, and lodging to obtain fundamental basic health care.

(4/6) Today, access to medication abortion via telehealth remains unchanged, but anti-abortion politicians are attacking it from every angle.

(3/6) The same states also sued, in federal court, the clinicians and organizations who provide medication abortion by telehealth, and they intend to seek the identities of the patients who received that care.

(2/6) These states are targeting providers, helpers, and the patients who rely on telehealth to access care. In making their case, they cast patients enrolled in Medicaid as a burden on the state and lie about mifepristone, a medication with decades of evidence showing it is safe and effective.

🧵 (1/6) Yesterday, Louisiana, Alabama, and Arkansas asked the Supreme Court to strike down the shield laws of California, Massachusetts, and New York, a dangerous escalation in the effort to dismantle reproductive freedom nationwide.

50 years of Hyde is 50 years too long. No one should be denied abortion care because of their income, insurance coverage, or zip code. It’s time to end abortion coverage bans. #Hyde50

The Hyde Amendment still blocks millions from care, forcing them to choose between rent, groceries, & health care. This policy enforces discrimination, harming Black, Indigenous, Latine, disabled, young, & low-income communities. Change is possible. States must act to make abortion care accessible.

Everyone should be able to access the care they need when, where, and how they need it! We trust doctors and patients, not politicians and judges, to decide if telehealth abortion care is what they need. #ProtectAbortionMeds

Medication abortion is a safe and effective option for both miscarriage and abortion care. Because the medications can be prescribed via telehealth, you can take them at home – which is critical when many patients face barriers to in-person care. We 🩷 medication abortion!

People are using AI chatbots to get medical advice. These chatbots are not trustworthy, which is concerning for those who might be seeking information about abortion or gender affirming care and live in a state with bans or restrictions.
STOP putting your personal health information into AI chatbots WHY?
Standard chatbots generally do not fall under medical privacy laws like HIPAA, meaning your health data lacks standard legal protection.
Information you submit can be logged, analyzed, or used to train future model datasets.
Standard chatbots regularly misinterpret medical nuance, miss critical facts, and deliver incorrect or misleading health guidance.
Sensitive health queries can be linked to your digital identity, creating a permanent profile of your personal health information.

Abortion is health care, always. Abortion care is needed for both pregnancy loss AND unwanted pregnancy. By sharing her story and explaining the terminology, Hilarie Burton is showcasing that abortion is part of the fabric of all reproductive health.
Photo of actress Hilarie Burton with quote:

Having an abortion after my fetus died allowed for my uterus to heal in a way that made it healthy enough to carry future pregnancies. It doesn't matter if you use the term D&C. The official word on the hospital paperwork is abortion. That's what it was.

The Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade four years ago today simply because it had the votes to do it. People were denied abortions long before 2022—thanks to insurance bans, viability bans, and Catholic hospitals—but a lot of journalists and politicians acted like that was an acceptable status quo
