I’ve been wearing FFP3 masks in all indoor places for 5 years and haven’t been sick in all that time- does that count as evidence?

There is as a song by a band called The The in the 1980’s called “Armageddon Days are here” which made exactly this claim- “if the real Jesus Christ were to come back today, he’d be gunned down cold by the CIA”

It’s crucial to get ventilation and air filtration in every public space. Thank you for speaking out about this. 🙏

📢 BIG NEWS!!! For the first time, the Electoral Commission has recognised the voting access needs of Clinically Vulnerable people - thanks to CVF! But we’re not done. They are running a public consultation, and we need your help! 1/🧵 #MyMaskMyVote
WIN for CVF!

Clinically Vulnerability Recognised by the Electoral Commission

Understanding the barriers to voting for disabled people

By identifying and understanding the physical, psychological and information barriers disabled people may face when voting, you will be better able to make appropriate arrangements to help support them.

Some of the barriers and challenges disabled voters face include:

polling station staff not having awareness of health risks when asking a clinically vulnerable voter to remove a face mask in order to check photographic ID

Yes that’s exactly it- the pandemic and its ongoing sequalea have been expunged from conscious memory for most. But it’s still there, and will return as symptoms and inter generational trauma.

When I posted on FB about Long Covid awareness on Sunday, citing between 3-4% of the population may have it, someone honestly commented “well I was fine after I had Covid so I can’t really take in this as a fact”. In other words, if it doesn’t affect me, it’s not happening!

Not only is it farcical that this issue continues to be ignored, but the journalist or editor here seem to be struggling with some level of cognitive dysfunction as they repeatedly call PIP( Personal Independence Payment) Pips…

I appreciate this response from Ed Yong on why he requests that people mask at his events. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/22/m...
You’ve been clear in saying that Covid has not gone away. You ask people to wear masks at your events. But that attitude is not necessarily where the rest of the world is. How do you think about continuing to take precautions and advising others to do so when it feels as if society has moved on? I do it for a bunch of reasons. Firstly, I have learned that I enjoy not being sick. I know that the cost of long Covid is real and substantial, and I don’t want to run that risk lightly. I also know that I have many friends and people I’m close to who are immunocompromised. So for the sake of the people around me, I also don’t want to get sick. When I do events, I wear a mask for those reasons, and because I know that every time I do a talk, while the vast majority of people in the audience have probably moved on, there are going to be other people who haven’t. I think it makes a huge difference to them to have the person at the front of the stage wear a mask. It tells them, It’s not weird. So I do it for that reason, too. In terms of holding this line at a point when a large swath of society has moved on, I have written a lot about the panic-neglect cycle.

No, SARS-CoV-2 isn’t a little bit airborne. It’s not “situationally” airborne. It’s an AIRBORNE VIRUS, spreads via the air. I’m granting an amnesty on people who said (5y ago) that it wasn’t. I won’t say I told you so if you finally acknowledge the evidence. Let’s just get this right and move on.

Or on the other hand “well I had Covid and I’m fine!” (apart from every virus I’ve picked up since then has been much worse, and I seem to be getting them more often, oh and there was that time I ended up at A&E with SOB and suspected pulmonary embolism). But other than that- I’m fiiiiinnnneeee!

Exactly this. People so want to believe everything is ‘normal’ and this denial is a defence against intense anxiety. The anxiety then gets located in ‘the other’, in this case- people who mask, who then become the mad ones.

I think it’s a question of capacity and internal feelings of deprivation ( for rich as much as poor) that leads to the former- the struggle for survival. But given how interdependent we are, the latter is not actually mutually exclusive to the former. Looking out for others=looking out for yourself.

I think the initial phase of the pandemic, and more importantly *how it was managed * caused a lot of trauma, and laid the groundwork for where we are now. Plus, when society has been operating on such an individualistic basis for half a century, the sudden necessity of collective action was doomed.
