My mind immediately goes to Another Space Song by Failure. That beat is hammering the whole time and the vocalist is singing... something? Still a vibe

And it is satisfying to see the protagonists defy the odds with the the very things that made them unique, or targeted

Does it weaken the relationship between the commentary and reality? It definitely can, but it's also what makes it more visible. In a world of declining media literacy, I don't mind it being a bit on the nose if it conveys the idea

I would argue that there is merit to the oppressed having some sort of unique status if only to draw a clearer theme of exposing the projected insecurities of bigotry. While racism metaphors are more fickle I do admit, fascism's self hatred often attacks people who reflect their own desires

i should clarify, when i write people doing bad things, it's because i am bad. they are me. more importantly, when you read about those bad things, they also become you. that's how story works. in fact, you are going to think about murder before this skeet ends. how's that feel, sicko.

Bird of Prey (Samus Aran from Metroid Ravenous)

Digital painting portraying the Nintendo character Samus Aran, from the Metroid series, as a ravenous creature on top of a totem.
Samus, a woman wearing a full futuristic space suit with giant round shoulders and an arm canom, crouches on top of a totem while holding a pink flame with a off-putting bird claw shaped hand. Her arm canom on the other hand oozes a yellow substance. She looks at the camera like she has just noticed us.

Might be weird to model, but highly (or skewed) asymmetrical designs could be interesting without much detail

I imagine you can also create multiple base bodies and outfits for characters. And for one-off gags, you can still use them for reference to draw over fully

It's a really clever way to have consistency in the foundations of your characters while letting you still go ham on the most expressive aspects of them. I for one love finding efficiency in my own workflow so seeing you exploring this is super cool!

Wacom recently asked me to talk about why I make queer comics, and given there are multiple bills right now floating around in congress that are effectively "we will kill your livelihood if we get a sniff of queer" I had some pretty strong, simply feelings to relay.

Garffeld

Three panel comic of an homage to the first Garfield strip, but Jon is a monk and Garfield is a medieval rendering of a cat. In the first panel, Jon says, “HWÆT, LAM JON ARBUCKLE. I AM A MONK, AND THIS MY CATTE, GARFFELD.” In the second panel, Garffeld is thinking, “ HWÆT, I AM GARFFELD. I AM A CATTE, AND THIS IS MY MONK, JON.” In the last panel, Jon says, “OUR ONLY THOUGHT IS TO GLORIFY GOD.” Garffeld thinks, “FEDE ME.”

Probably similar to the AI tools built into DaVinci Resolve. Takes the machine learning and produces a procedural tool that does no generative stuff whatsoever, all processed on the local hardware. Generative is such a flawed concept for tools because procedural is repeatable, generative is not!

Another day, another post from my backlog. Funny hexblood woman (2023) A 5e character concept I never really got to play as. Her design went through more iterations but I haven't drawn the new version properly yet.

A purple skinned witch-like woman faces right with an outstretched hand. Has long ears and horns growing out of her temples. Her hair is wrapped behind her head and she wears an old Celtic dress over chainmail and gambeson

The same woman drawn with pencil facing forward. A small side drawing shows her leaning with poor posture

Comic character concept art, 2021. Man, this artwork still fucks

A bust of a gender ambiguous person with a tall, wide-brimmed hat and cloak. Drawn in black and white with high contrast, only showing highlights and shadow

Been a while since I've posted here, and even longer since I shared art. Maybe I'll work through my backlog. I see a lot of flaws with this piece from 2021 but I do still like it. Ink on paper and colored digitally.

A figure holding a cobbled-together futuristic rifle attached to a canister by a corrugated tube. They wear a tattered, vintage sci-fi looking flight suit with light armor pieces, sitting in the foreground behind some rocks while overlooking a barren red desert. The distant dunes are broken up by eroded rock formations, some mushroom-shaped ones standing impossibly wide at the top. In the far distance against the sky, several of these natural rocks appear to be floating and chained together by cables, supporting skyscraper shapes while surrounded by miniscule representations of spacecraft.

For my fellow Clip Studio Painters, if CSP ever crashes on you and/or corrupts your files: I have the solution 🌟 This method has saved my ass MULTIPLE times‼️and also CSP has a feature in which you can have your progress autosaved, and you can customize how often it saves :3
