Please share widely: The dates for New Ways of Analyzing Variation 53 have changed to November 5-7, 2025, due to a late-breaking university calendar change. Abstracts due June 15. Visit us at nwav53.ling.lsa.umich.edu (also accessible via nwavconference dot org but BlueSky doesn't like redirects)

I was part of Research Manitoba when the previous govt ‘reorganized’ aka de-organized and de-funded and began to prioritize funding private industry. Lots of good people got caught up in the devastation. Hoping it can be renewed.

I think in this particular case, I would do the strategic vote even if I felt strongly for the green or NDP candidate ONLY because it is PP and it would be so glorious if he lost his seat.

It’s self-serving for sure but I also think he can do more good as premier of a province than an MP/leader of federal party that won’t be in power.

Hey. The fragmentation of the social media landscape has been hard on indie #scicomm 🧪 projects So if you'd like to follow a podcast that's enthusiastic about #linguistics, could you check out @lingthusiasm.bsky.social? And if you think your followers might like to, could you give this a repost?

I was thinking Michigan! I could stay in Ontario and drive across, but nah, that’s not a good idea either. I didn’t go to Florida for political reasons, I should probably stay away from Michigan too. It’s so sad, I love NWAV. Doing CVC this year instead but it’s really not the same.

lol, from that article: "RBC analysts wrote in a note that the February numbers … "might not be indicative of true demand. New car buyers in Europe, …could be holding out for the Model Y refresh," or a "new affordable model," yeah that must be it

I change the names and in an ideal world I try to add/change a sentence or two that is relevant to the particular program/potential advisor, but it depends if I actually have something to say about it or not. But I’m also writing single digits of student letters normally

I guess because of the prosody. Need the trochees if you’re going to say it properly with emphasis on both IN and FUCK. In writing it’s less important. I prefer B for both but written A doesn’t bother me as much.

Nicole Rosen @nikkivi.bsky.social · 26/03/2025
Orally B is better but in writing they’re both fine

Provincially that may be true but there are many federal ridings in Manitoba that are strongly liberal. In Winnipeg, anyway.

I am also pretty sure this change was due to member complaints, not an arbitrary director decision

Do other sports allow minors to play with adults? I know in hockey 16+ can in certain leagues with a waiver but I don’t think it’s normal. I think the addition of a family league is a good idea to allow for those who don’t want to play against kids and those who do
000
Nicole Rosen @nikkivi.bsky.social · 17/03/2025
There’s a Sunday family league that I’m planning on playing in with my son. They just made a new league instead of having them play with adults. Honestly it’s probably safer overall, even if it’s a drag for individuals
