Here’s my review of the latest destination thriller from @nikkismithauthor.bsky.social which publishes on 22nd May - I loved it! Huge thanks to @vikingbooksuk.bsky.social for my gifted copy 💙📚 You can pre-order here: uk.bookshop.org/p/books/they...

Set against the lush backdrop of Bali, They Had It Coming follows two couples whose long-standing friendships are riddled with secrets and lies. Layla and Nate seem like the perfect, aspirational couple—successful, glamorous, and living the dream in Bali—but their picture-perfect life is far from reality. Jude and Sophie, their long-time friends, arrive expecting a luxurious holiday, but tensions simmer beneath the surface, hinting at old betrayals and hidden resentments.

I loved this book! As the trip progresses, each character's flaws and motivations come to light, making you constantly reassess who you can trust. It felt like every chapter ended on a cliffhanger that kept me saying, "Just one more chapter," until I realized I'd devoured the whole book in a few nights. The intricate plot twists had me constantly second-guessing who to trust, and I did not see the ending coming!

I’ve been to Bali and the vivid descriptions transported me right back to its exotic beaches and vibrant culture. The novel also delves into the darker side of influencer culture, contrasting the polished online personas with the gritty reality beneath.

I can't recommend this book enough for fans of twisty, destination thrillers. It's a gripping read that will make you think twice about the secrets we all keep and who you can trust!
