Nik @nikftime.bsky.social · 11/08/2026Sinfest was in my webcomic reading rotation until around the late 2000s/early 2010s, when it started to get really into Ishida's unfiltered, morphing thoughts on politics and feminism. Even at the time, when I wasn't very wise, Ishida's views started to seem weirdly, grossly backwards around then. 030

Some of the Thundercats have exposed ears, but otherwise you just need good makeup, a wig, contacts, maybe fake nails for the claws, and that's it. 000

Nik @nikftime.bsky.social · 03/08/2026Trapt (or their singer, anyway, since he runs all their socials) has been getting more and more unhinged over the last ten years, so this is legitimately not a shocking development. There was a big thing where he just spammed their sales and steaming figures at anyone criticizing them for a while. 120
Nik @nikftime.bsky.social · 03/08/2026Only one thing to do about this. Close my eyes. Let the whole thing pass me by. There is no time to waste, asking why. 000
Nik @nikftime.bsky.social · 02/08/2026The Black Cauldron's main throughline is "Growing up means learning all the ways the world sucks. People are mean to you for no reason, good people die pointlessly, and leaders you trust are corrupted by power." And none of these lessons are represented in the movie at all. 051
Nik @nikftime.bsky.social · 02/08/2026Reread The Black Cauldron for the first time in close to thirty years and it made me question how the hell Disney even thought they could adapt it into an animated feature in the first place. 151
Nik @nikftime.bsky.social · 21/07/2026I remember people getting angry that I 'presented my opinions as fact,' when in reality I was just following a very well-established writing style that critics have used for decades. Ultimately I think some people will just always see a differing opinion as a challenge to their own, and rise to it. 020
Nik @nikftime.bsky.social · 21/07/2026The same thing goes for the opposite direction. Having a divergent opinion on some geeky thing often puts you in an arena. I feel like for the last decade I've been banging my head against the wall of 'we are allowed to have different feelings about this.' 2151
Nik @nikftime.bsky.social · 21/07/2026And I don't know of anyone who was trying to argue that their opinion was 'right' or anything when making a video. The goal was to just share your own, be informative, and be entertaining. So if someone with next to no budget can *accidentally* have that much sway over someone's opinion, then... 1151
Nik @nikftime.bsky.social · 21/07/2026It just kind of put things in perspective for me. Because that's not a novel experience. Some reviews from that era were very influential in certain circles as to how the reviewed media was perceived. I've seen people blame Red Letter for the prequels' reputation. TAS for anime misperceptions. 1141
Nik @nikftime.bsky.social · 21/07/2026I saw a thing recently where someone claimed that CA producers had tried to tell them 'how to feel' about various media. As in, they were resentful that their opinion had at one point been influenced to be more positive or negative than it wound up being later, once that influence had faded. 1152

Nik @nikftime.bsky.social · 29/06/2026Also. What the fuck is Iemori talking about? Honoka confessed to YOU, dude. I get that Himari's relationship with Iemori is what spurred Honoka into action and ultimately helped them to get together when they did, but this is a weird way of framing it. 140
Nik @nikftime.bsky.social · 29/06/2026I think that there's potential for a series in which the relationship between a boy and a girl that gets the most attention isn't the final romantic pairing (it's called Fruits Basket), but certainly not if the relationship that you go with is among the WEAKEST in your story. 240
Nik @nikftime.bsky.social · 29/06/2026This is something you can say of a lot of Jump manga, in which potential romances are really just a side deal, and so they feel like a starkly underexplored element of series that are otherwise popular (NaruHina, IchiHime, IzuOcha, Astosastelle, etc). But those AREN'T advertised as romances! 130
Nik @nikftime.bsky.social · 29/06/2026What's odd about Hima-Ten!'s disappointing ending is that it just reveals what was inherently the main problem with the series, and why it didn't gain popularity to begin with: the ultimate romance was the least interesting relationship in the entire story. 240

Nik @nikftime.bsky.social · 19/05/2026Issho is supposed to be grumpy and opinionated but unquestionably charismatic, and I just didn't get that. Evan Michael Lee's performance for the dub version is closer to that. There's age in his voice, but also moxie. It's closer to the voice I've had in my head when reading the manga. 140
Nik @nikftime.bsky.social · 19/05/2026I think I'm going to be watching the dub version because I completely disagree with the Japanese version's approach to Issho. He sounds way too generically 'old man' to me. Utterly stunned that Ootsuka chose to (or was directed to) portray him that way. 140
Nik @nikftime.bsky.social · 19/05/2026Akane-Banashi episode 1 reaction: a good start. Expressions and physicality were animated well in the most important moments. What's going to be crucial is nailing three transformative, otherworldly nature of the big rakugo performances. 150

Nik @nikftime.bsky.social · 14/05/2026Hogwarts is the ONLY magical school in the UK. Harry's Gryffindor year includes eight named students and supposedly two unnamed girls. That's ten in his house, meaning about FORTY new wizards in Great Britain per year. Period. Where are all these pro athletes coming from!? 040
Nik @nikftime.bsky.social · 14/05/2026But wait, there's more! Professional Quidditch leagues exist! The British league has fourteen teams. There are seven players per team (assuming NO reserves), which means 84 starters in the league. Question. Where the fuck do all of these pro Quidditch players come from when there's ONE SCHOOL!? 140
Nik @nikftime.bsky.social · 14/05/2026Maybe you'd have money to conduct background checks on your staff if you weren't spending so much on maintenance for a stadium that hosts SIX GAMES A YEAR and, let's be clear, provides ZERO INCOME to the school. They don't sell tickets to families, it's JUST students and staff who attend, for free. 130
Nik @nikftime.bsky.social · 14/05/2026Look I understand this is a world where people can teleport everywhere yet the primary means of long-distance communication is to have a nocturnal bird flap hand-written letters across the goddamn country, but someone's got to look into Dumbledore's bookkeeping. 130
Nik @nikftime.bsky.social · 14/05/2026...but Hogwarts has a great hall for those things. The Quidditch pitch is never used for non-Quidditch purposes. Ever. And they play SIX GAMES A YEAR. 150
Nik @nikftime.bsky.social · 14/05/2026Real-world highschools have fields and pitches and courts, etc., that are only used for a handful of home games per year, yes. But those schools basically always use them for *multiple* sports, which don't exist in Potter world. Or they're used for large gatherings like assemblies and dances... 150
