//I’m happy to get a better World of Darkness! But I want designers do know that scrapping an edition entirely and starting from scratch is a real rugpull to the ppl who have already invested time and resources into the prior edition. It’s a betrayal of trust, even if the change is for the better.

//I hate that “new edition” in the ttrpg world has come to mean “completely new game” because that is not what used to be the norm before D&D 3e. You could absolutely use Vampire the Masquerade 1e, 2e, Revised, and 20th Anniversary stuff pretty much interchangeably.

(V5 doesn’t even have Serpentis—gotta cobble it together from bits of other disciplines now and there certainly aren’t five levels.)

//Melee 3 is still Melee 3 but you’re going to have to invent an NPC’s Composure and Resolve pretty much just from vibes. Backgrounds, Merits, and Flaws won’t always translate well into V5. You’ll have to pick a Blood Potency based mostly on vibes and rough guidelines.

//You can do the translation but it’s a lot more work because you are really converting from one system to another, even if they’re close cousins. You don’t really have to do any translating to run Ashes to Ashes (V1) with V20.

//Go look at the differences between editions of Call of Cthulhu, WEG’s Star Wars, TSR’s Marvel rpg, or GURPS prior to 4th edition. Even the different D&D and AD&D editions published by TSR were compatible enough that people used modules more or less interchangeably, sometimes w/o even realizing.

//Nah I have been in this hobby for so long, I was literally born into it. Before WotC D&D, a “new edition” generally just meant a clean-up and some tweaks. V1, V2, Revised, and even V20 were all basically intercompatible.
