Bobby Baccalieri still going strong. He’s better off with the little doggie than with Janet Soprano.

San Nomedio, an absolute unit standing sentinel over the Minho valley in Galicia. Legend has it that it served as a refuge against invaders; Romans, Goths, Vikings etc. Now home to a population of wild ponies, very beautiful and timid, who come down to the villages at night to graze the gardens.
Picture from a distance of San Nemedio mountain in Galicia. It is a large conical mountain, forested in many parts on the lower slopes.

Rio Xabrina in Galicia. Pound for pound among the prettiest rivers anywhere, especially in Autumn. It has the same etymology as the River Severn in England/Wales which was also named Sabrina, both after the water deity presumably, until the Anglo Saxons renamed it as Severn.

Really nice woodland trail though I keep hearing an animal noise in the trees on my right that I’ve never heard before. Probably nothing to worry about.

So at Olot and it’s the Festes del Tura main day today. This is the Cult of the Virgin of Tura whose relics are housed in the city. Fireworks, music that sounds like Brahms but probably isn’t, and Giants including the blessed Lady herself resisting temptation to great applause from everyone.

The UCI needs to rearrange the calendar and move La Vuelta back near its original spot before the Giro. It is blisteringly hot in Spain atm and these guys shouldn’t be racing. It’s obviously going to get worse, race organisers and UCI should already be talking about next year.

I’m staying in a very old B&B in Girona atm & I don’t know who this Cardinal I keep passing on the staircase is. The crosses on the borders aren’t Templars I don’t think, they may reference the True Cross stuff connected to the Cathedral here. So, I like him but I’m ignorant about the identity.

Very hot in Catalonia today, 34 degrees, so I cut short the walking and stopped at a really nice and cheap hotel opposite a truck park at La Jonquera, a major transport hub near the border with France. It’s not very picturesque, but I’m happy to sit here and drink beer and watch the hay wagons.

I’ve been walking all day on the sentier littoral south from Banyuls sur Mer into Spain and it’s all either up or down, you don’t even get 5 metres of flat. Irritating. Had a nice swim now though.

As you are heading out from Hang Bank plantation north-east from Broughton between the old railway footpath and the Torver road. It’s on the edge of the Broughton Tower estate. The red pointer is probably not exact but it’s on that path within 50 yards or so from the marker.
