nige @nigecube.bsky.social · 18hI got a brand new phone yesterday, it has a super-whizzy camera with lots of megapixels and zooms. It's fitting that the very first picture I'm forced to take with it is of my daughter's infected lughole so I can WhatsApp it to my wife. 000
nige @nigecube.bsky.social · 05/10/2026My local Boots would have the case of the 128k versions on the shelf (Knight Tyme, Stormbringer) but would invariably put the 48k cassette inside. Staff didn't understand the difference and would never replace it. 200

nige @nigecube.bsky.social · 04/10/2026Liking it, especially the ability to save presets for weird setups like the 3" Speccy +3 disks. Unfortunately I can't seem to get the MacOS version to work despite my aged OS being compatible. 110
nige @nigecube.bsky.social · 04/10/2026The windows GW GUIs were the only reason I kept a windows partition on my Linux laptop. I can ditch that now! 110

nige @nigecube.bsky.social · 29/09/2026I finally got around to making a cable to attach a 3" floppy drive to a Greaseweazle. It wasn't as hard as all the contrary information on the internet had led me to believe. To celebrate I printed myself a case and label to make it look authentic. 021

nige @nigecube.bsky.social · 27/09/2026Oh, I didn't spot the Commodore plus/4. @fuzzweed.co.uk this looks like your workbench! 120
nige @nigecube.bsky.social · 27/09/2026Oh hello! A Spectrum +2 spotted in the video of the latest @warringtonruncorn.com video! Must be the grey version as the audio isn't distorted. #Ifyouknow... youtu.be/w8LIkEWVtT8?... 141
nige @nigecube.bsky.social · 26/09/2026I bought it again when I upgraded to an Amiga. Having a WB1.3 CLI window pop-up to proudly exclaim that the music was composed on a ZX Spectrum whilst the game loaded was not what I wanted to see on my brand new multimedia machine. Still, SFX was nice though! 110
nige @nigecube.bsky.social · 26/09/2026I bought it again when I upgraded to an ST. Although it ran smoother and was a bit more polished (and of course, it had that sampled song) there was something lacking with the gameplay... 100
nige @nigecube.bsky.social · 26/09/2026I seldom buy old software but I had to get Starglider for the Speccy when it popped-up on eBay for £7! I paid full price for it back in the day, back when paying £14.95 for a cassette game was unheard of. A classic! 260
nige @nigecube.bsky.social · 25/09/2026I don't do football, but I did do this daft podcast. I'll always feel that the Mince renditions of Peter Beardsley, (Mr) Sting and Dom Littlewood are the genuine versions. WARHAMMER! 010

nige @nigecube.bsky.social · 13/09/2026To do: change the belt on the tape deck as the output is a bit wobbly, work out how to open the 3rd party PSU so I can add a power switch, figure out why the DivMMC Enjoy Mini died for no apparant reason and figure out if I actually want to fit the +3e ROMs or not. 100
nige @nigecube.bsky.social · 13/09/2026Whilst inside the machine I performed a couple of mods. As it's a +2b Spectrum it didn't need any of the corrective audio mods but I did add the extra resistor to make the RGB output SCART compliant and converted the sound socket to accept input so I can load via a Maxduino... 100
nige @nigecube.bsky.social · 13/09/2026Back to the tape deck. The popping sound was occurring when any of the tape deck's buttons were touched. A quick web search revealed that this is a common problem caused by the PCB mounting screws working loose and losing the earth connection. I tightened the screws and the noise went away... 110
nige @nigecube.bsky.social · 13/09/2026It works! (Later I tested the CPU in a 48k Speccy and it worked fine with the DivMMC. When testing it with a chum's scope I discovered the CPU still had a M1 signal but it was very low) It was time to test some games, first off was.... oh hang on, what's that popping sound? 100
nige @nigecube.bsky.social · 13/09/2026After a quick poke around with a multimeter I discovered that the diode at D2 had shorted (this is on the M1 line from the CPU to the edge connector). I replaced the diode and tested with the diagnostic cart, we have a signal! But the DivMMC was still not working. So I changed the CPU... 100
nige @nigecube.bsky.social · 13/09/2026The Spectrum is in beautiful condition inside and out and looks hardly used, however it refused to work with my DivMMC. My diagnostic card reported the M1 signal was missing from the CPU, this is the cause of the DivMMC not working with this machine... 100

nige @nigecube.bsky.social · 12/09/2026My Huawei Mate 20 Pro was the best phone I ever owned. Now on a Pixel 7 pro which is fine but, y'know, Pixel stuff. It's starting to show its age physically and I'm dreading replacing it as I have no idea what to replace it with. 321
