Love this brilliant seabird mural currently on display at Sumburgh Head painted by local Shetland school children and facilitated by the amazing team at Sumburgh Lighthouse and Shetland Amenity Trust. Puffins galore plus Arctic Skua, Gannet, Razorbill, Guillemot, Shetland Wrens and Orcas! Brilliant!

Well, I certainly wasn't expecting this to interrupt work today - news of an Egpytian Nightjar found by Roger Riddington in his #Shetland garden! A tense drive down to the South Mainland was all worth it though - what a gorgeous bird this was. Clear skies tonight though...

How has the population of Shetland changed over time? A higher proportion of Shetlanders live in Lerwick today than in 1931. However, Lerwick was not the main beneficiary of the population boom in the 1970s, which instead largely went to districts in the north and south Mainland.
