The people this free school meals policy helps most are 1 people who are NRPF 2 low income people earning just above the threshold

There are benefit cutoffs which are much lower than for childcare, like carer's allowance or free school meals. When some London boroughs gave all children free school meals there was an avalanche of sneering from mostly pretty well off people

I followed him and tapped him on the shoulder and told him he should put on a mask and he did. This it. 'Oh I'm a bit sick but I'm not testing so be careful' like what should I do. Not go into the event?

Actually I asked one guy to wear a mask. A few years back. I was at an event, and he saw me, told me he had been feeling ill but he wasn't testing so 'be careful' then he walked into the event hall past the little table with masks on it and sat down

I don't ever ask other people to mask, I just ask for things like air purifier in meetings, and people say yes yes and then don't bring it

Working in a pub a customer asked where I lived and I said Lewisham, he said 'that's a bit ... dark isn't it' I didn'tknow what to do so I said 'the street lighting seems adequate' and he pointed at his skin to make it clear what was too dark about Lewisham

Giving all these sympathetic interviews to parents of grown adults who are living their life in a way the parents don't like is really, really bad

My mum by age 25 was married, separated, in a new relationship and had two children, and her parents were spitting mad about every single moment of this, which does not matter because it's her life

I mean how would the govt stop HMOs, councils could refuse to license any more HMOs I guess, but people who can only afford single rooms wouldn't disappear. More people rough sleeping and living in hostels probably

I think almost the entire private rented sector is not an ideal living situation
110
niebieskirower.bsky.social @niebieskirower.bsky.social · 19/08/2026
And I know people in HMOs with kids, living in an HMO doesn't make you anti social or something?

niebieskirower.bsky.social @niebieskirower.bsky.social · 19/08/2026
HMOs are where many single people just have to live though no? If you don't live with your parents or a partner, how many people can rent a flat by themselves?

A professor at my uni was sleazing on girls and I went to another lecturer to complain and he said 'look, I'll make the complaint, but they are not going to do anything. Girls were making complaints about him when *I* was a student here'.

I was distressed in the hospital having tests and the black technician spoke to me all the way through about his hometown Lisbon to distract me and help me calm down, NHS staff should not have to put up with all this while doing their jobs

My mum tells stories about the hospital where I was born and one is about another new mum crying all the time who didn't speak English and my mum asked the cleaner for help and she found a woman in the kitchen who spoke Portuguese to come and talk to her

Regarding my own family there's no connection afaik to any notable people but I think some people did see children in care as a pool of abusable children and it makes sense that powerful and influential people would be able to get access to them
020
niebieskirower.bsky.social @niebieskirower.bsky.social · 19/07/2026
I had some close family growing up in children's homes and I feel like the kids were treated as basically disposable and it was OK for adults to harm them as they didn't matter and were annoying

Hey to be clear, I am fully down with people from modest backgrounds who have done well getting annoyed with stuck up workmates/neighbours/relatives. Nothing wrong with that. Only when people punch down I have a problem

People who are from modest but middle of the road backgrounds who do well and are then surrounded by people who had opulent upbringing can often be total pricks to actual poor people and they have no excuse at all for it

But like, Starmer has in no way had it especially tough in this regard. He went to a grammar school, his family are not well off but they are respectable, he's not an estate kid.

My last job had a lot of working class people who had gone to university and were quite emotionally invested in being educated and professional.
