i'm still very glad that the WSJ did their investigations and i'm still very glad they were exposed. but is facebook still around? is it still causing misinformation on a massive scale? is it still deeply harmful to teens? yes, yes and yes

the most frustrating thing about watching the social reckoning is that... facebook didn't really face too much reckoning, did it.

DID YOU KNOW that there's a Hobonichi (Japanese stationery brand) drawer pouch (also known as a big pencil case) with a peacock pattern called Peacocks of Grantham Hall that was drawn by none other than JOHN MALKOVICH (yes, that very same John Malkovich)? www.1101.com/store/techo/...

Digger is not a bad movie. I don't know if it's a good movie. I do know it made me think a lot about the state of the world after I watched it. If art's purpose is to make one reflect on life, then it certainly did that. Is it worth watching? Yes. Is it worth paying money for? idk.

Here’s the thing about being a journalist that they don’t tell you about in school: depending on what you do, people are going to know your name. Which can be unnerving and weird. Unless you like that sort of thing I guess.

I think my takeaway after a few days trying out some of this stuff is that there is value in doing research yourself. There is value in doing the hard work of looking up stuff yourself. Yes, it does take time and effort. But, just like in math class, it's important to show your work.

I think of TS the same way I think of the MCU. There are some highlights, some mediocre stuff, some bad stuff that I never want to consume again. But I'll listen / watch them at least once.

had to use some AI stuff for work-related things (literally part of the job description) and i still find it incredibly cringe to use. there are certainly some useful bits but just doesn't seem worth it in the end. idk.

Candidly, I have spoken to several Chinese-American authors who have supposedly signed TV/movie deals for their books. I have not heard about ANY movement about them at all for the past few years. I know projects take years (and often get canned) but it's discouraging.

100

Nicole Lee @nicolelee.bsky.social · 17/09/2026

It really does feel like there was this MASSIVE wave for a few years (American Born Chinese, Turning Red, Brothers Sun, Beef S1, Everything Everywhere All At Once etc). And then... a trickle. Now there's this Cupertino TV show that has like one Asian actor even though it's set in a 70% Asian town.

Seeing as the deadline was pushed to Monday, it seems like a lot of people still can't solve it, so maybe you can check it out and see if you can.

Nicole Lee @nicolelee.bsky.social · 12/09/2026

In case people are interested, I solved last week's Raddle mystery a few days ago after perusing for hints in the Reddit page (the hints were useful but I had already discovered them on my own). I then left a couple of my own hints in the comments after it seemed people still couldn't solve it.

110

Nicole Lee @nicolelee.bsky.social · 11/09/2026

And then it made me think. Surely this is just one of those things that every piece of fiction -- books, movies, TV shows -- will probably reference going forward. And I'll probably always just think of it as cringe.

000

Nicole Lee @nicolelee.bsky.social · 11/09/2026

I think that's why I haven't watched Apatow's The Bubble (beyond that I hear it's bad) or similar projects. It feels weird. Too soon. But also so long ago. Like a surreal break in the space-time continuum.

100

Nicole Lee @nicolelee.bsky.social · 11/09/2026

I read a book set during the pandemic. It made me cringe. It felt like recent history, like it was too soon to reference. It took place five years ago. Five. How can five years ago feel so recent, while feeling so long ago?

5) The shape and size of it reminds me of my journal / planner, which I'm sure is not a new take and everyone who's had a folding phone will say the same, but that's kind of why idk if it's for me because it looks... thick?

000

Nicole Lee @nicolelee.bsky.social · 11/09/2026

4) More reactions: The more I look at it, the more I'm reminded of Palm / Handspring PDA vibes. Especially when combined with the case. It's weirdly retro, but not.

Nicole Lee @nicolelee.bsky.social · 10/09/2026

3) The big question for me will be the kind of apps that will play nice with this format. Ideally a kind of cross between iPhone and iPad apps. Hopefully some iPad apps make the cut.

110

Nicole Lee @nicolelee.bsky.social · 10/09/2026

Initial reactions: 1) iPhone Duo looks nice. I like the curved corners and the overall design language. 2) Matte finish might be divisive but could be game changer if using with Pencil for writing / art. Wished it was optional for flexibility, but understand they went this way for the crease hiding.
