I’m working on a batch of over 40 resin pendants, including a few of these glowing jellyfish! This is something I’ve wanted to try for a long time and just couldn’t get the look I wanted. I was able to make these with UV resin, small bubble wrap, and glow paint. #resin #jellyfish

‘The Red Ghost’ This piece is based on a legend from Arizona that is both fantastic and partly factual. It’s too long to post here, but I absolutely recommend looking up the history of the US camel corps in the 1800s and The Red Ghost. I wanted to show both aspects of the story in this piece!

Here’s a complete look at my paper color study for Character in Context at A.R. Mitchell Museum of Western Art and how it is constructed! The ghost camel is attached to a sheet of non glare plexi, which helps support the figures but also slightly softens the background.

One more behind the scenes look at my Character in Context piece! I used Super Matte Medium from Golden Acrylics to laminate an extremely fine tengucho paper to a clear acrylic for the smokey effect. I then cut a thin paper with the pattern and used the medium to adhere it to the back.

This piece depicts the horse in stride, ready to move forward, surrounded by fiery red silk and laser cut bamboo veneer surround. The horse is cast paper in a mold of my own design, and painted with granulating watercolors that shift red and pale teal. I wanted the piece to look like an ancient artifact framed and displayed with pride. The piece is finished in a black faux bamboo frame with antiglare museum glass.

The horse is cast paper, coated in matte medium and transparent watercolor ground, then painted in watercolor. The background is made from several layers of cut paper gilded in 24K gold and copper leaf, with a mother of pearl shell veneer behind the horse’s head. The fire at his feet is also shell veneer with a thin strip of cherry wood veneer on top. I laser cut the surrounding design from four different wood veneers layered together. The frame is wrapped in black lacquer paper and protected with museum quality uv blocking and anti-glare plexiglass with brass corners.

While the plaster mold dries, I’m working on the files to cut the background pieces for the horse. It’s the year of the fire horse, so there will be lots of gold and red colors. The past two years were wood snake and dragon, so those will be cut from wood veneer.

Year of the Wood Snake artwork titled ‘Time for a Change’ in reference to the Lunar New Year Zodiac animals. The red paper and holographic vinyl snake sheds its delicate Tengucho paper skin from the previous year. It is nestled in a laser etched watercolor paper plum tree with copious pink blossoms. The wood surround is also laser cut with shell veneer and 24k gold leaf accents.

Year of the Wood Dragon is part of a Lunar New Year Zodiac series and features a cut paper and holographic vinyl dragon emerging from a laser carved wood surround. The green dragon is painted in watercolor and gouache with a wood, paper, and faux jade background. The dragon corners were hand sculpted in clay, molded, and cast in bronze with an antique patina applied.

This unicorn piece titled ‘A Gilded Chain is Still a Chain’ is based loosely on the medieval Unicorn Tapestries. The artwork is made of intricately laser cut and layered cloth book papers, embroidered in real gold and silk embroidery threads. The unicorn is painted on cut silk watercolor paper with watercolor and gouache. The piece is embellished with 13k white and 24k yellow gold leaf and vintage glass beads.

This clock stopped working long ago, but is now a cozy home to a diligent little spider. This is my most intricate spider artwork to date and contains laser cut metallic paper gears weathered with acrylic paints, laser etched spider webs on non-reflective acrylic, and a tiny watercolor painted spider.

This paper clock and spider artwork is framed in a vintage, gothic style, wooden clock case. The convex glass is actually broken, which gave me the inspiration for this piece, but the broken glass has been stabilized and filed down at the open edges for safety. This is a piece that really has to be seen in person as the layers of Optium Museum Acrylic are practically invisible and really make the webs look like they’re floating.

This is my most intricate spider artwork to date and contains laser cut metallic paper gears weathered with acrylic paints, laser etched spider webs on non-reflective acrylic, and a tiny watercolor painted spider.
