For ex - the memory system would ingest the raw turn, extract the state delta, reconcile the entity-constraint map, and throw the high token conversational fluff away. 10/10

would be interesting to see more efficient memory architectures for agents based on neuroscience primitives. 9/n

if biological organisms tried to hoard uncompressed sensory buffers the way general RAG systems hoard chat logs, one could presume that the sheer cognitive (and metabolic) overhead would collapse the organism within hours. 8/n

for episodic memory, you retain the geometric structure and causal gist of an event, while your cortex resynthesizes the surface details on the fly. intrinsically, episodic memory is reconstructive simulation - makes sense from a compute efficiency + generalization/transferability perspective 7/n

the hippocampus and entorhinal grid networks discard ~99% of the perceptual noise in real time, compiling raw experience into a compressed, topological belief graph: coordinate systems, relational invariants, and (updated) priors. 6/n

when you recall a conversation from last Wed, your brain isn't streaming an archived audio file or re-reading a transcript. 5/n

biological brains have zero tape-recorder machinery. human memory is an active simulation engine and not a ‘digital hard drive hoarding verbatim sensory bitstreams 4/n

But in Othello-GPT, the network never memorized move syntax. probing the residual stream revealed an emergent coordinate geometry of the actual board. Anthropic’s SAE work shows the same grammar - activations resolve into sparse, orthogonal feature subspaces, instead of messy string buffers 3/n

most memory harnesses today are just vector search over raw dialogue turns, dumping unparsed tokens into the prompt window. it is mostly ~noise: you are burning compute forcing the model to re-derive the semantic state from scratch on every single forward pass. 2/n

the biggest mistake in building agents today is confusing conversation history with actual state. searching past chat logs is not memory, and building systems around transcript replay guarantees bloated, unreliable agents 1/n

I asked LuFlot (lucianofloridi.com/bot) to explain to me Floridi’s concept of the Levels of Abstraction. I then plugged in the answer into ElevenLabs to narrate LuFlot’s response, and overlayed the audio with video clips I created through Runway. See the result. Quite remarkable
