Magnificent film. As the main character says near the end, so many questions. As Whiplash, it asks if greatness is worth sacrifices. More optimistically, it says if bonds are kept, even amidst apparent doubts, creations transmitting emotions have a lasting legacy in other hearts

Terminé de leerlo anoche. Gran libro.

Jane Austen, famous for giving her novels titles with a duality of traits, emotions, virtues, or attitudes, would have perhaps entitled one work of hers as ‘narcissism and flattery’ were she to write a novel on the current political landscape nowadays

Some nationalists around the world treat those with their own citizenship as if they were exceptional/elected -in a weird quasi-religious secular fashion. This happens, of course, in different countries. From such biases & mistakes blunders & dangerous attitudes & policies follow

Murakami's Tony Takitani story is intriguing. His loneliness isn't something he treasures. He doesn't exclude others: selfishness (father), fate (spouse), or emotional needs (woman he planned to hire), broke some bonds. Yet, a bond remains through memory www.newyorker.com/magazine/200...

Double standards & hypocrisy in humankind are infuriating. Among others they demand justice while ignoring or rationalizing evils inflicted on others. Individually and socially. Patriotic symbols and lyrics are proof. In their name others have been oppressed yet talk of freedom

In a short story, Colombian writer Juan Gabriel Vásquez makes a character say that somebody (a soldier in the tale!) capable of criticizing their country deserves one’s attention. Indeed. The capacities to set aside ego and fanatical pride, to have standards, are sometimes rare

Everytime I listen to ‘Break my Stride’ a smile comes to my face. In its original & cover versions. Closing my eyes I feel swayed by gentle waves of turquoise beneath revitalizing sun rays. The lyrics don’t even suggest so. It’s maybe an association of when I first listened to it

I’ve disliked how much bloodshed and superiority complexes some national anthems proclaim in open or subtle ways. I still do. I hope that always makes me feel uncomfortable. A problem is how passions, nationalistic or otherwise, make some embrace those undertones unquestioningly

What a nice discovery. A beautiful painting on a moment in which genuine tenderness and trust (quite intertwined) are spontaneously shown, not pretended or posed. I still find traces of the painter’s focus on downtrodden classes. They do not seem well off. Their love is priceless
